Manderston is a magnificent Edwardian country house located two miles east of Duns in the Scottish Borders. Extensively rebuilt between 1901 and 1905 with no expense spared, it is considered one of the purest expressions of the Edwardian era in Scotland. Today, visitors can explore this remarkable historic home and experience the elegance of a lost “Golden Age.”

The house features opulent state rooms including a ballroom and marble hall, the world’s only silver staircase, and extensive downstairs domestic quarters. It is surrounded by 60 acres of formal gardens, terraces, a unique marble dairy, a lakeside boathouse, and a Woodland Garden filled with rare rhododendrons and azaleas. Free on-site parking is available, and the main house can accommodate up to 20 guests in 10 luxury bedrooms with WiFi throughout.

Admission prices are £12.50 for Adults and £7.00 for Children, with Children under 12 Free. For events and celebrations, Manderston can host up to 120 seated guests with access to the marble hall, drawing room, morning room, ballroom, and the iconic silver staircase for photographs.

  • The original house was built in the 18th century and remodelled by architect John Kinross in 1905. A house on which no expense was spared, Manderston has opulent state rooms including a ballroom and marble hall, the only silver staircase in the world and extensive ‘downstairs’ domestic quarters.
  • The house is surrounded by 60 acres of beautiful formal gardens, immaculate garden terraces, a unique marble dairy and picturesque countryside, all set against the backdrop of the hills of the Borders. On the south side of the house lies a lake overlooked by a boathouse in the style of an oak panelled alpine chalet. 
  • To the south of the lake is the Woodland Garden containing many rare species of rhododendrons and azaleas which are glorious in the spring and summer. The Stables are walking distance from the house. Manderston is a product of the best craftsmanship and highest domestic sophistication of the Edwardian era.

  • Accomodation: Manderston can accommodate up to 20 guests in 10 generously sized bedrooms in the main house. Located on the first floor of the house, all rooms have luxury bathrooms and spectacular views. WiFi is available throughout.

Manderston can accommodate up to 120 guests seated for an event with access to the opulent marble hall, drawing room, morning room (which opens onto the terrace) and stunning ballroom. Many of our guests take advantage of the magnificent silver staircase in the marble hall for a truly unique photo opportunity.
