The Lindisfarne Centre is the perfect starting point for exploring Holy Island of Lindisfarne. It introduces visitors to the island’s rich history, heritage and community life through engaging exhibitions and displays. Located on Marygate near the entrance to the village, it helps you plan your visit and make the most of your time on the island.
Inside, you’ll find interactive exhibitions about the famous Lindisfarne Gospels, including a facsimile of this national treasure and insights into how the monks created it. Learn about the dramatic Viking raid of AD793, see a Viking raider display, and discover stories from islanders about local life and nature. There are children’s games and activities, along with a well-stocked gift shop offering local books, crafts, jewellery, maps and souvenirs. Knowledgeable staff are available to provide tips on where to go, eat and stay.
Ticket prices are affordable, with adults at £4, concessions at £3.50, children aged 5–15 at £2 and under 5s free. A family ticket for two adults and two or more children costs £10, making it good value for families exploring the island.
Open daily from mid-March to the end of October between 10am and 4:30pm, the centre is easy to find near the start of the village. It’s an informative and welcoming place that brings Lindisfarne’s fascinating past to life and helps visitors experience the island safely and confidently.
