Apsley House, Home of the first Duke of Wellington, Apsley House stands right in the heart of London at Hyde Park Corner. The Duke – whose victories over Napoleon brought him fame and wealth – bought the house and remodelled it between 1819 and 1829. 

Inside, look out for the grand Dining Room, shimmering with treasures presented to Wellington by grateful people, rulers and nations. The mansion also shows off nearly 1,000 fine paintings, sculptures and works of art. You can admire paintings by Velázquez, Rubens, Goya, Titian, Breughel and more. Multimedia guides for adults and children help you explore the mansion – one of only two aristocratic London townhouses open to visitors today.

Facilities

  • Parking: Charged car park on Park Lane, about ¼ mile away (not managed by English Heritage). Limited, free parking is available for disabled visitors to book in advance. These parking spaces are between 5 and 15 metres away from the entrance.
  • Toilets: Male and female toilets available.
  • Dogs: No dogs are allowed on site but we do make an exception for access dogs.

  • The Apsley House Mystery: Date: Sat 18 Oct 2025. Time: 6-8pm or 8.30-10.30pm. Location: Apsley House. The Apsley House Mystery returns, this time set at a Masquerade Ball in the 1920s. It’s a race against the clock to solve the puzzle. The Duke of Wellington has invited his important guests to a special evening reception, but shortly after guests arrive, a terrible discovery is made. One of the guests has been murdered!
  • The Duke's Guest: Date: Fri 21 Nov 2025. Time: 6pm-9pm. Location: Apsley House. You're invited to an evening of dancing and high society as The Duke's Guest at Apsley House. Discover the proper etiquette of a 19th century ball, test your skill at cards, and learn to dance without embarrassing your host!
