Llangollen Wharf is a long-established tourist attraction in North Wales and part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site along the Llangollen Canal. Welcoming visitors since 1884, it offers scenic boat trips through the beautiful Dee Valley. It’s a relaxing and family-friendly destination in the heart of Llangollen.

From the Wharf, you can enjoy traditional horse-drawn boat trips along the canal feeder, or take a motorised aqueduct trip across the famous Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. There are also self-drive day hire narrowboats for up to 10 people, giving families and groups the chance to steer their own boat. Private charters are available on the motor boat, and special seasonal trips, including festive sailings, operate throughout the year. On-site facilities include a tea room serving homemade meals, snacks and Welsh cream teas, as well as toilets and nearby town parking.

Horse-drawn boat trips cost £12.00 for adults and £6.00 for children, with a family ticket (2 adults and 2 children) priced at £35.00. Aqueduct boat trips are £19.00 for adults and £14.00 for children for a two-hour journey. Self-drive boat hire costs £200 per day on weekends and bank holidays, or £150 per day on weekdays, with a £70 refundable cash deposit required. Private Charter also available.

  • Horse drawn boat trips: A horse drawn boat trip is a unique experience, as you get to appreciate drifting through the majestic Welsh mountains whilst your equine guide casually progresses on land just a few feet further on. Making our passage down the attractive feeder for the main canal, you can enjoy watching the fish as they lazily swim through the clear waters delivered fresh from the River Dee, whilst local wildlife goes about its daily routine overhead and in nearby greenery. 
  • Aqueduct boat trips: Our motorised canal boat, the Thomas Telford, carries you through the exquisite Vale of Llangollen and across the famous Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, whose creator our vessel is named after. Built between 1795 and 1805, the impressive structure stands out from its surroundings and yet somehow complements the landscape perfectly, making it a site that simply has to be seen up close. Traversing five miles of the Llangollen Canal World Heritage Site, this is an unmissable activity that we highly recommend you include when visiting our charming region.
  • Self-Drive: Our 32-foot (11m) narrowboat is also available for day hire. This is the perfect way for a family, group of friends or a corporate team to have their own private boat for the day and soak up everything that this picturesque World Heritage Site has to offer. You steer the Day Hire Boats yourself. They are easy to steer and we give full tuition when you collect the boat. No licence is required. Bouyancy aids can be provided if required.  We can also provide takeaway food for you consume on the boat. 

Facilities

  • Parking: We only have a pick up and drop off point at the Wharf but it is only a 5 minute walk from any of the car parks in Llangollen town. 
  • Food & Drinks: No matter what the weather or time of year, there’s nothing quite like homemade fare in welcoming surroundings. Serving breakfast, soup, cakes, snacks , afternoon tea, welsh cream teas, panninis, and much more, All home cooked and great value for money.
  • Toilets: The motor boat which does the Aqueduct Trips does have a toilet. The Horse Drawn trips boats do not have toilet facilities. There are toilets with disabled access at the Wharf. The Day Hire Boats have a toilet.

Private Charter: Our charming motor boat, the Thomas Telford, can be chartered for groups of 20-52 people for a 2-hour trip, usually at 11:45am or 2:00pm. We can provide light meals and Welsh Cream Teas, which are freshly prepared in our Tea Room and served on board just prior to departure. We can also serve a selection of teas, coffees and other refreshments from our fully stocked bar.
