  • Glamis Castle: For over 650 years, Glamis Castle has been on a grand journey through Scottish history, from inspiring famous playwrights to welcoming royalty. Glamis has been the ancestral seat to the Earls of Strathmore and Kinghorne since King Robert II granted the Thanage of Glamis to Sir John Lyon in 1372. Once host to Mary, Queen of Scots, Glamis is said to have inspired one of Shakespeare’s most famous plays, Macbeth. Glamis also has a deep connection to today’s Royal Family as it was the childhood home of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother and birthplace of HRH Princess Margaret.

Glamis has been the ancestral seat to the Earls of Strathmore and Kinghorne and their Lyon predecessors since King Robert II granted the Thanage of Glamis to Sir John Lyon in 1372.
  • The Gardens: The majestic gardens at Glamis are a sensory experience for visitors throughout the seasons. From the dramatic first blooms of daffodils along the mile long avenue in spring to The Kitchen Garden’s vibrant borders at their peak in late summer. To the high drama of The Macbeth Loop with its atmospheric wood sculptures to the vastness of the Douglas firs in the Pinetum. Our gardens are full of stories, sights and scents.
  • The Archives: Explore over 650 years of history in the Glamis Castle Archives with records dating back to the 12th century. Glamis Castle has witnessed over 600 years of illustrious visitors, from royals, prime ministers and artists to friends, clergy and tenants. With such a long and fascinating history, it is not surprising that the castle has a rich and diverse archive.
  • Sustaining Glamis: Glamis Castle is more than a family home and historic residence. The Castle and village are the focus of a traditional rural estate which continues to encourage the development of a thriving rural community today.

Facilities

  • Parking: Offers ample car and coach parking facilities. It is located behind our Pavilion Shop and is within easy walking distance of the castle. Car parking is included in all pre-booked tickets. To gain access to the Restaurant, Gift Shop or Hub only, Gardens & Grounds tickets will need to be purchased.
  • Food & Drinks: The Castle Kitchen Restaurant provides drinks, lunches and afternoon teas. The Old Larder provides hot and cold drinks to take away, as well as a selection of snacks.

  • Arbikie Whisky Experience & Glamis Castle Guided Tour: 1st May - 31st October, Time: 10am - 4pm. Discover the best of Scottish craft and heritage with this joint ticket for an unforgettable day out. Begin your experience with a behind-the-scenes Arbikie Whisky Tour, where you’ll explore the field-to-bottle process and enjoy a guided tasting of their award-winning drams. Then, after a short 30 minute drive through the Angus countryside, step into history with admission to Glamis Castle & Gardens where you can gain insight into over 650 years of historic stories.
  • Sustaining Glamis Exhibition: 19th Mar - 11th Oct, 2025. 10am - 4pm daily. Glamis Castle is more than a family home and historic residence. The castle and village are the focus of a traditional rural estate which continues to encourage the development of a thriving rural community today.
