Features

  • Clovelly Court Gardens: Clovelly Court Gardens are a must see whilst visiting the famous village. Plants thrive in this sheltered sunny corner of North Devon, which has the added benefit of the warmth the Gulf Stream brings. You’ll find neat, carefully tended gardens and beautifully restored Victorian greenhouses within its old walls. The incredible variety of fruits & vegetables grown here supply the Red Lion Hotel. You can even take some home with you!
  • Clovelly Donkeys: Once integral to the daily lives of villagers, the donkeys have been some of Clovelly’s favourite residents. Welcome to our newest residents of Clovelly. Meet Rex, Bert, Ernie and Alfred! The Clovelly donkeys are settled in their new home at the stables at the top of the village. Why not pop in and say hello on your next trip?
  • Clovelly Shops: Shopping in Clovelly is pure retail therapy. Clovelly Pottery, Clovelly Silk and Clovelly Soap all have unique and exclusive handmade products. Walking down the village, taking in the shops and the living history of this unique place is a wonderful way to spend a day out.
  • Mount Pleasant: From the craft workshops, visit Mount Pleasant at the top of the cobbled street. Mount Pleasant sits on this grassy knoll, and is known locally as Peace Park. This is a popular picnic spot for visitors to Clovelly. There are benches to sit upon with spectacular views across Bideford Bay. The memorial was erected by Christine Hamlyn, owner and benefactress of Clovelly, in memory of the village men who lost their lives during the First World War.
  • Fisherman’s Cottage & Kingsley Museum: Fisherman’s Cottage is found walking along the path by the side of the cottage containing the Kingsley Museum. It is just a few yards down from the New Inn where you’ll come to the pretty little Fisherman’s Cottage, a very special North Devon attraction. Discover more about Charles Kingsley and his time at Clovelly. Make sure to stop by the exhibition room, to see the latest installation!
  • All Saints Church: Standing in the grounds of Clovelly Court, and bounded by Clovelly Court’s walled garden, is the attractive Norman church of All Saints. All Saints Church was begun in the 12th century on the site of an earlier timber building. The Norman church was a simple cruciform building, consisting of a nave, chancel, and transepts. As the population of Clovelly grew, more space was needed, and in the 14th century a north aisle was added.
  • Fishing & Crabbing: All anglers that fish off the harbour wall must purchase a licence from the Red Lion. Permits are pro-rata, dependant on the month purchased. There are specific times, due to the volume of visitors over the summer.

Facilities

  • Parking: You can park in the Visitor Centre Car Park, which is included in your admission ticket. The small Beach and Fisherman’s car parks are reserved for permit holders only.
  • Food & Drinks: Clovelly sources as much of its food from the estate. Fresh fish, crabs, lobster are all landed on the quay at Clovelly daily in season. We’re also part of the sustainable fishing partnership, to ensure our waters have lobster for generations to come.
  • Accommodation: The Red Lion Hotel is an 18th Century 4-star Inn that stands on the quay alongside Clovelly’s ancient harbour in North Devon. Each of its 17 beautifully decorated rooms boast a sea view. A stay at The Red Lion includes entrance to Clovelly and The Clovelly Court Gardens. Parking available too.
