Visitors can enjoy animal encounters, explore habitats, hop on the Great Whipsnade Railway, and let kids play in indoor and outdoor adventure areas. Special events like “Trolls: A Field Study,” daily animal talks, and Virtual Reality Experiences add extra fun.

Ticket prices vary by season, with adult online rates from £27.70 to £31.50 and child rates from £19.40 to £22.10. Kids under 3 go free. Membership options are also available.

Animal Experiences & Encounters:

  • Animal Experience: Meet Zoo's incredibals animals. From a herd of Asian elephants to vast different species of butterflies and invertebrates, they have over 11,000 animals at Whipsnade Zoo. And find out how we're using our expertise to protect them with cutting-edge wildlife conservation.
  • Daily animal talks: Get closer to nature and learn more about animals from across the world. Our daily animal talks share the latest understanding of endangered species, their habitats, and how we can protect them. 
  • Animal habitats: Connect with nature's most spectacular animals and learn about their unique habitats. From what it takes to provide expert care for a herd of elephants, to exploring one of the largest butterfly biomes in the UK.

Activities & Play:

  • Play areas: Whipsnade Zoo has an indoor soft play area and an outdoor playground. Whether it's our nimble red pandas or agile chimps, your children can leap, climb and swing just like their favourite animals in our nature-inspired adventure play parks.
  • Virtual Reality Experiences: Do you want to dive the oceans depths to swim with sharks, glide with manta rays or join a pod of whales? Maybe you'd like get a closer look at a troop of gorillas or the epic journey millions of animals take across the grasslands of Africa? Feel the wonder of wildlife in a whole new way with an immersive virtual reality experiences at Whipsnade Zoo.
  • Hullabazoo: It is a special area dedicated to entertaining your little creatures! Hullabazoo is made up of Hullabazoo Farm, Hullabazoo Indoor Play and Hullabazoo Adventure Play. The space is an interactive, up-close adventure, where little ones will be able to meet and greet a whole host of farmyard friends.

Unique Attractions:  

  • The Great Whipsnade Railway: Take a ride on one of our two impressive steam engines, Excelsior and Superior, as they weave their way through the territories of some of the world's most inspiring animals. Enjoy the magic of a steam-hauled railway - very few zoos have them so it's a great treat to make your day at Whipsnade even more special. 
  • Trolls—A Field Study: A very special adventure has arrived at Whipsnade Zoo: twelve magical trolls need YOU to join their team of field researchers!  The trolls have set off on an exciting mission to learn all they can about humankind – and they need the help of curious, nature-loving kids to show the way! Experience the world premiere of Trolls: A Field Study this summer at Whipsnade Zoo.  

Facilities

  • Internal bus: Trialling an internal electric bus service to help you get around our large site a little easier. (The bus service is not currently running) 
  • Food & Drinks: Discover delicious food and drink at Whipsnade Zoo at one of their catering outlets, with options to suit dietary needs. You are welcome to bring your own food and they provide tables across our site.  
  • Parking: Both paid and free parking available. You may park in free external car park and walk around the Zoo or You may drive into the Zoo and park in specified areas around the Zoo.
  • Changing Place Facility:  Changing Places Facility which includes a hoist on a track, a movable toilet and sink, a shower and cleaning facilities.

By Bus: South Beds Dial a Ride operates local bus service 40, funded by Central Bedfordshire Council, from Dunstable to Whipsnade Zoo. There are single fares, discounted returns and a Family Day Ticket for just £8 for up to 2 Adults and 3 Children.

By Train: You can hop in a taxi from Hemel Hempstead, Leighton Buzzard, or Luton Parkway train stations.

By Car: Only 20 minutes from the M25 (junction 21), Whipsnade Zoo is signposted from the M1 (junction 9 and junction 12) and all major roads - just follow the elephant on the above map.

By Bike: They have a cycle rack for visitors to use, which is located outside of the Zoo's Visitor Centre and is covered by our CCTV. Bicycles, electric scooters and motorbikes are not allowed on Zoo premises.
