Standard Gauge Heritage Railway and Museum located in Chasewater Country Park ideal for families, accessible to all, dog walkers, and enthusiasts alike. The Railway is rapidly gaining recognition as one of the major visitor attractions within the Walsall, Lichfield & Cannock areas. The Railway operates passenger trains from its headquarters at Brownhills West to Chasetown, with intermediate stations at Norton Lakeside and Chasewater Heaths. A round trip of nearly 4 miles takes about 45 minutes. Day Rover tickets offer unlimited travel on all trains operating on the day of issue. All of our trains, stations and other facilities (including the tea room and museum) are accessible for visitors with mobility difficulties.

  • Drive Experience: Feel the power and excitement as you drive and fire one of our resident steam locomotives along our historic ex-colliery line, winding through the stunning scenery of Chasewater Country Park. Whether you’re fulfilling a lifelong ambition or searching for an unforgettable gift, this hands-on steam locomotive experience is truly one of a kind.
  • Carriage and Wagon: The High Capacity Coal Waggon, The Merry Go Round Waggon or more commonly referred to as MGR hopper, had a long life, first prototypes were built in Darlington works in 1964, and testing at  Darlington Works led to over 11,000 waggons being built at Shildon Waggon Works from 1965 to 1980’s. 
  • Museum: Visitors can view a vast array of railway items, some from as early as the 1800s. Although we try to focus on artefacts associated with the local area, with its strong links with the coal mining industry, our collections include items from much further afield. You don’t have to be an expert on railways to appreciate the inspirational displays prepared by our Museum Curator, Barry Bull, and his team of volunteer helpers.

  • Parking: Parking is free for our customers at Brownhills West Station.
  • Food & Drinks: Tea Room is open 7 days a week 10am - 4pm with indoor and outdoor seating available. Hot food is subject to availability and last orders approx 3.00pm, Please do let our staff know BEFORE ordering if you have any allergies or special dietary requirements.
  • Dogs: Aloud to the site.
