Features

  • The Aquarium: Home to over 45 different species of fish, ranging from Nemo and Dory from the world of coral reefs to fish that come out of the water and walk on land. There are colourful tiddlers to monsters over 3ft long, meat eating Tiger fish to Pacu's that are strict vegetarians, we've even got Terrapins as well. Something for everyone in the family to see, no wonder it is our most popular attraction.
  • The Thermal Pool: The Thermal Pool is fed with water at a constant 20 degrees celsius, from a spring believed to be around 2,000ft below ground. This water gushes out and through the pool at a phenomenal rate of 600,000 gallons a day - it is the equivalent of filling this old swimming pool 18 times a day. On frosty days steam can seen rising from the Thermal Pool, a reminder of how warm it is.
  • The Petrifying Well: Almost forgotten now, this is the only remaining working well left in Matlock Bath, where several wells once existed and were visited by thousands of Victorian trippers. Here you can come and see the ‘petrifying’ process taking place as the famous Matlock Bath thermal water is sprayed onto objects gradually 'turning them to stone'. The water is rich in minerals, particularly calcium from the local limestone.
  • The Hologram Gallery: Unique collection of three dimensional pictures produced by laser technology. Images which float in space before you, so real, you will not believe your eyes! An extensive refurbishment was carried out in 2013, where new lighting was fitted and several new holograms were added to our collection of over 80 items, making this one of the largest collections of holograms on public display in Europe.
  • Gemstone and Fossil collection: A beautiful worldwide collection of over 30 varieties of gems and fossils. With more than 60 different pieces in our large show cabinets, we have items from as far away as Australia and also including the famous Blue John Stone, which is still mined to this day locally in Derbyshire.

Facilities

  • Parking: There is free on street parking, but this is limited to only one hour and often in short supply. All other car parking is in local authority pay and display car parks. The main car park is by the Matlock Bath railway station (turning down by the ‘Midland Pub’) . The Aquarium is just a short walk from this car park, by crossing over the main road and heading south along the parade of shops etc. (look for Nemo above the main entrance)
  • Food & Drinks: There are a selection of restaurants, cafes, pubs and fish & chip shops along the length of the village, offering a wide range of food and drinks.
  • Toilets: There are toilets located at the northern end of the village, by the pedestrian lights, on the river side of the road, a short walk from the car park.
