Isle of Man Steam Railway
5.23 miles
Groudle Glen Railway is a historic narrow-gauge railway on the Isle of Man, originally built in 1896 as part of the Groudle Glen pleasure grounds. After falling into disrepair in the mid-20th century, it was revived and is now operated as a registered Manx charity by dedicated volunteers. Today, it offers a nostalgic steam railway experience through scenic glen landscapes to the sea.
Visitors can enjoy charming steam train rides uphill through the glen, with regular Sunday services from May to October and special Wednesday evening runs in July and August. The railway also hosts seasonal special events, including Easter-themed rides with prize draws and family activities.
Return fares are £7.00 Adult, £3.50 Child, and 60p for Dogs, valid for travel all day. Single fares cost £3.50 Adult and £2.00 Child. Private train hire is available for parties, events, and photo charters (subject to availability).
Overall, Groudle Glen Railway offers a delightful blend of history, heritage, and family fun. Run by passionate volunteers, it preserves an important piece of Manx railway history while providing a scenic and memorable day out.
