The Great Laxey Wheel, also known as Lady Isabella, is the Isle of Man’s most iconic landmark and the largest working water wheel in the world. Standing 72 feet 6 inches (over 22 metres) in diameter, this remarkable piece of Victorian engineering was designed by Robert Casement. For more than 170 years, it has attracted visitors to the picturesque village of Laxey and remains one of the island’s most memorable sights.
Visitors can watch the magnificent wheel turning and climb the 95 spiral steps to the viewing platform for panoramic views of Glen Mooar Valley. The site also features a mines trail, stories of the Laxey miners, and access to the entrance of the underground mine, offering insight into historic mining life. Guests can capture scenic photos, experience the atmosphere of life underground, and enjoy the unique engineering achievement up close.
Admission costs £14 for adults, £7 for students (over 18 with a valid Student Card), and free for children aged 16 or under when accompanied by an adult.
With its impressive engineering, historic mining heritage, and breathtaking views, the Great Laxey Wheel offers a truly unique experience.
