Francis Skaryna Belarusian Library and Museum in north London, England, is the only library outside Belarus to collect exclusively in the field of Belarusian studies. It was formally established as an independent institution in 1971 and is owned by a charitable trust. 

A community library, museum and archive which exists to preserve, provide access to and promote the cultural heritage of the Belarusian people. Access by appointment. Please see the website for the current and forthcoming events.

  • Museum: The museum collection contains maps of Belarus from the sixteenth century onwards. The cartographical collection consists of over 100 maps in total.There are two slutskiia paiasy, the splendid eighteenth-century girdles woven with gold and silk thread in the city of Slucak, and a priest’s chasuble made of these and similar girdles from Hrodna.There is a small collection of sixteenth-seventeenth century coins from the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Nearer to our times, there is a selection of temporary banknotes issued in 1918 by the local authorities in Slucak, Mahilioŭ and Homieĺ in the absence of central government.
  • Library: There are over twenty books printed before 1800. In addition to those already mentioned the collection includes Novyi Zavet i psalmy (Vilna 1623); Novyi Zavet i psalmy (Kutsieina 1652); the first Uniate Leitourgikon (Suprasl 1695); Sobranie pripadkov (Suprasl 1722); Sarmatiae Europeae descriptio by A. Guagnini (Speier 1581); A. Koialowicz’s Historiae Lituanae (Danzig 1650, Antwerp 1661); Inwentarz konstytucyy Koronnych i W.X. Litewskiego (Leipzig 1733).
  • Art collection: Graphics-A large part of the library’s art collection consists of graphic works. It includes rare sketches by Karus Kaganets, an original drawing by Yazep Drozdovich with an autograph, linocuts by Finnish artist and graduate of the Vitebsk Art School Aleksanteri Ahola-Valo, an etching by Mikhas Sevruk, color monotypes by Boris Malkin, a significant collection of etchings by Boris Zaborov, and many other works. The graphics collection formed the basis of an exhibition organized by the library in 2020 to mark the 100th anniversary of the Vitebsk art association UNOVIS.
