Features

  • Barnet Physic Well: The Physic Well comprises a seventeenth century underground well chamber, over which a Tudor-style building was erected by the Council in 1937. Over the years this fell into disrepair, and between April and November 2018, extensive restoration work was overseen by Barnet Museum, funded by Barnet Council and Historic England, with support from the Heritage of London Trust.
  • The Battle of Barnet: Three kings, swirling fog, a storm of arrows, new-fangled hand-guns and one side attacking their own men – this was the 1471 Battle of Barnet! English Heritage describes it as ‘one of the most important battles’ of the Wars of the Roses, a series of English civil wars over who should be king. The claimants were Edward IV, of the house of York, and Henry VI, of the house of Lancaster.
