Features

  • The Castel: Dundonald Castle is truly one of Scotland’s hidden gems, tucked away in the quiet, rural landscape in South Ayrshire. The 14th-century hilltop fortified ruin is looked after daily by The Friends of Dundonald Castle SCIO, who also manage the attraction’s Visitor Centre. One of Scotland’s most unexplored and fascinating outdoor attractions, this heritage treasure was the historic home to Scots’ King Robert II, grandson of Robert the Bruce. It boasts historical links to the Stewart dynasty, the Wallace family, and the Cochranes, favourites of Charles II.
  • Museum & Exhibition: Within the Dundonald Castle Visitor Centre, we have an interesting exhibition, complete with a newly installed museum grade display case and intricate models showing the settlement’s evolution from Iron Age hill fort, to a castle fit for King Robert II and his household, in the 14th century. We also have a great selection of dress-up clothes and accessories for our visitors to gain the full medieval experience.
  • Green Tourism: Friends of Dundonald Castle SCIO recognises that it has a responsibility to the environment beyond legal and regulatory requirements. We are committed to reducing our environmental impact and continually improving our environmental performance as an integral part of our business strategy and operating methods, with regular review points. We will encourage customers, suppliers and other stakeholders to do the same.
