Culzean Castle

Description

Culzean Castle, This glorious 260ha estate was once the playground of David Kennedy, 10th Earl of Cassillis – a man who was keen to impress with his wealth and status. Opulent to the extreme, the park is planted with conifers and beech, sculpted around miles of sandy coastline dotted with caves, and finished off with a Swan Pond, an ice house, flamboyant formal gardens and fruit-filled glasshouses.

The castle itself is perched on the Ayrshire cliffs, incorporating everything the earl could wish for in his country home. It was designed by Robert Adam in the late 18th century and is filled to the turrets with treasures that tell the stories of the people who lived here.

Price starts from £22.00 for Adults, £11.00 for Children and £55.00 for Family. If you are looking for Best place for day out with kids and families then this is the perfect destination offering fun, adventure, and unforgettable memories for everyone.

Features

  • Castle: Culzean Castle is perched on the Ayrshire cliffs, incorporating everything an earl could wish for in his country home. Designed by Robert Adam in the late 18th century, it’s filled to the turrets with treasures that tell the stories of the people who lived here.
  • Walled Garden: Built in the 18th century, the Walled Garden at Culzean is one of the largest in Scotland and a significant garden in our care. It consists of two sections divided by a spine wall – the pleasure garden and the kitchen garden, which supplies fruit and vegetables to our catering facilities.
  • Walks: An easy, flat walk around the Swan Pond at Culzean.
  • Podcast: Hosted by journalist and broadcaster Jackie Bird, each episode of our Love Scotland podcasts tells some of the thrilling stories behind the Trust’s people and places, showcasing how everything we do is for the love of Scotland.
  • Beach: Almost 3 miles of cliffs, rocky shore and sandy bays add the final touch to Culzean’s diverse surroundings. The views across the Firth of Clyde to Arran, Kintyre and Ailsa Craig from the cliff walk create the perfect photo opportunity. Paths lead down to the rocky lava platform where rockpools abound and endless hours can be spent on Culzean beach. Search for ghost prawns, sea urchins and starfish, or semi-precious stones including agate, jasper and even amethyst. North of the castle the terrain changes to warmer old red sandstone and sandy bays.
  • Adventure Cove and Wild Woodland: Unleash your inner adventurer and make your way around Adventure Cove and Wild Woodland play parks. Located at the Swan Pond, they offer lots of thrilling features to explore, including soaring towers, treehouses, slides, climbing walls, a mazehouse and zip slides.
  • Country Park: One of Culzean’s greatest assets is the 120 hectares of mixed woodland managed for shelter, production, amenity and wildlife conservation. Around 17 miles of pathways allow access to mature deciduous stands, a conifer plantation, small clearings, glades and quiet glens. The rich diversity of habitats support a wide range of animal and plant life.
  • Autumn family trail: It’s a cold autumn night, and the little witches at Culzean Castle & Country Park are creating a magical potion. Follow the trail to see them soaring through the skies, collecting ingredients, and brewing up bubbling concoctions.
