Dulwich Picture Gallery is the world’s first purpose-built public art gallery, founded in 1811. Today the Gallery is a vibrant cultural hub nestled in leafy South London, hosting some of the UK’s leading exhibitions alongside its Collection of Baroque masterpiece paintings. 

The Gallery also hosts a wide-ranging programme of public events and community engagement.

  • Sculpture Garden: Journey through the Sculpture Garden and discover a series of sculptures by contemporary artists nestled throughout our three acres of grounds. Explore how artworks connect to the Gallery's history and Collection of historic paintings and walk along the bespoke land artform in The Lovington Sculpture Meadow, designed by leading landscape artist Kim Wilkie.
  • The Collection: As well as our ground-breaking temporary exhibitions, Dulwich Picture Gallery boasts a stunning collection of historic paintings featuring works by Rembrandt, Poussin, Rubens and many others.
  • ArtPlay Pavilion: Step into a world of imaginative play at the ArtPlay Pavilion. Set in the Gallery’s Sculpture Garden, our immersive play space invites little ones to explore the elements. They can experience sunlight, water, wind and earth through engaging sensory activities.
  • Farmers' Market: Discover an exciting new farmers’ market in the stunning setting of our Sculpture Garden. Surrounded by sculptures by acclaimed artists such as Li Li Ren, Amy Stephens and Rob and Nick Carter, this produce-led market is a must-visit for lovers of fresh, organic food and artisanal crafts.
  • Bloomberg Connects digital guide: Discover the fascinating stories behind our collection and exhibitions. The guide features stop off points throughout the Gallery written and informed by experts. You can enjoy in-depth audioguides, stories and films about our history, art and architecture. Plus, for every exhibition you can listen to curators’ and (or) artists' insights on themes and individual works to give you a fuller picture.
  • Family Trail: Explore some of the fantastic objects in our gardens and grounds with this free trail for families, designed by artist Lucy Grainge.
  • Sensory Backpacks: Developed with local families, we have free sensory backpacks which include sensory objects and noise cancelling headphones for kids to enjoy. 
  • Free Things To Do: You're welcome to explore our Sculpture Garden and grounds for free. Our events programme includes us a number of free events, including Art Sundays sessions for families and Lates where you can explore our collection, watch live music and take part in art workshops.

Facilities

  • Parking: Free parking spaces are available on Gallery Road and College road. There is also paid parking in nearby Dulwich Park, just opposite our College Road entrance. Free accessible parking is available on Gallery Road for Blue Badge holders.
  • Eating & Drinking: From takeaway coffee to brunch, there's plenty of delicious food and drink on offer at Dulwich Picture Gallery.
  • Toilets: Public toilets, including a unisex accessible toilet with a baby changing station, are located in the corner of the glass cloister next to the Linbury Room. More facilities are available in the new ArtPlay Pavilion.
  • Lockers: Free lockers are available in the main entrance as you enter the ticket hall. In order to preserve the collection backpacks and suitcases are not permitted in the Gallery.
  • WiFi: Enjoy our free WiFi in the Gallery.

Alight at ‘Dulwich Picture Gallery’. 3 to West Dulwich Station (from Crystal Palace bus station bus stop D or from Oxford Street bus stop RF). Alight at ‘Croxted Road/Thurlow Park Road’ 37 to North Dulwich Station (from Peckham Rye bus stop N or from Putney bus stop F). Alight at ‘North Dulwich Station'. P13 to Dulwich College (New Cross to Streatham). Alight at ‘Dulwich College’.
  • By Train: You can easily reach us via National Rail, from London Victoria to West Dulwich or London Bridge to North Dulwich. Trains leave around every 15 minutes. Both stations are a 10 minute walk from the Gallery.
