Welcome to the Lavender Line Heritage Railway nestled in the heart of the East Sussex countryside, the Lavender Line is a lovingly preserved heritage railway based at the beautifully restored Isfield Station. Run entirely by a small team of dedicated volunteers, we offer visitors of all ages the chance to step back in time and experience the golden age of rail travel.

Driver Experiences: Driver experiences are currently available on DEMU 1133, Diesel locomotive 09025 and the steam locomotive Lady Lisa. DEMU experiences usually take place on Saturdays or Sundays when we are not operating, steam on Sundays when the locomotive is being used in any case (experiences available before or after normal running) or for a full day on Saturdays.
Diesel Driver Experiences: Diesel driver experiences take place on a day when the railway is otherwise closed and are offered on our DEMU Thumper unit 1133 at a cost of £350. After an initial briefing you will undertake the pre-operating checks and inspections before starting the engine. You will drive the train for 7 return trips down the line, to a total of 14 miles. The initial 3 trips are low speed and focus on control and accuracy of braking. After a break for a mug of tea/coffee, you progress to faster trips which test your ability to stop accurately from higher speed. The final trip will be a full line speed trip.
Steam Experience: Please contact us (details at the foot of the page) to book, an outline of the options available is given below. All steam driver experiences are on Lady Lisa at present. We offer a personal experience which is not shared with anyone (unless you choose to book with a friend for the Gold Experience). This means that you get the maximum opportunity to drive during your time with us and we can tailor the experience in line with your requirements.
