The Helicopter Museum in Weston-super-Mare, North Somerset, England, is a museum featuring a collection of more than 80 helicopters and autogyros from around the world, both civilian and military. It is based at the southeastern corner of the former Weston-super-Mare RAF Base.

The award winning Helicopter Museum holds over 100 Rotary wing aircraft gathered from all over the world representing a wide spectrum of technologies. Visitor favourites include two of the Queen's Royal Flight helicopters, the current world speed record holder G-LYNX (400 km per hour), a Vietnam Veteran Huey, a Russian Hind Gun Ship plus much more. Regular Open Cockpit Days, Helicopter Flights and Special Events take place throughout the year.

  • Open Cockpit Days: Open Cockpit days are fun for all the family and allow visitors to access the cockpits of selected helicopters. Climb inside, put on the helmet, and have the controls explained to you by an experienced guide.
  • Air Experience Flights: Helicopter Air Experience flights depart from our very own helipad and give you a unique experience and understanding of how these incredible machines work. Your pilot will explain the controls as you fly over the local countryside and coastline at an altitude of 1,000ft.
  • Flying Visitors: Visiting military and commercial helicopters regularly fly in to our helipad.
  • Collection: History and descriptions of all our helicopters and autogyros on display here at The Helicopter Museum. They cover the early days of helicopter pioneers, to past and present civil and military helicopters from around the world.
  • Museum Archives: Volunteers catalogue our archive of rotorcraft manuals, drawings, books, magazines, brochures, artefacts, film, photos etc collected over many years.
  • Weston Aviation Exhibition: Visit the recently restored WWII Pilots Block and Weston Aviation Exhibition telling the story of Weston's aviation history including Weston Airport, RAF Locking and local aircraft factories.

Facilities

  • Parking: Parking at the museum is free of charge with ample car parking spaces. There are allocated parking spaces for Registered disabled visitors by the entrance and ramp access from the car park into the museum. Parking for coaches is available but we would ask coach drivers to contact the museum in advance of arrival to ensure a space is available.
  • Food & Drinks: Our fully serviced café is open during normal museum opening hours serving a selection of pastries, sandwiches, hot and cold meals, drinks, snacks and ice creams. Non museum visitors can also access the cafe for refreshments.
