Welcome to the Fitzwilliam Museum, The Fitzwilliam Museum is the art and antiquities museum of the University of Cambridge. It is located on Trumpington Street opposite Fitzwilliam Street in central Cambridge. A huge showcase of classical art & artefacts, from Asian ceramics to armour, coins & paintings.

Experience award-winning exhibitions, events and a changing display of artworks and objects from throughout history to today. From ancient Egyptian artefacts to modern and contemporary art, our eclectic collection has something for everyone.

  • Explore our collection: Our collection contains over half a million artworks and objects from throughout history to today. We are committed to the ongoing process of reviewing and updating the records published in our online collection, some of which are historic and may contain offensive language or reflect outdated interpretations and ideas.
  • Families: Children of all ages are welcome at the Fitzwilliam. Our collections and displays are free to visit and entry to our ticketed exhibitions is free for children under 18. We also have regular family events running throughout the year.
  • Things to do: Drawing materials, picture books and sensory resources for babies and children are available for you to borrow and enjoy throughout your visit. Pick up whatever you’d like from our Family Trolley in the Courtyard and use them in any of our galleries.

Facilities

  • Parking: There is no visitor parking. Limited Pay and Display and disabled parking is available on Trumpington Street. The nearest car parks are Grand Arcade (off Downing Street) and Queen Anne (Gonville Place). 
  • Food & Drinks: Find a range of meals and snacks for children including vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options in our Courtyard Kitchen café. Highchairs are available and there’s space for prams and buggies alongside larger tables.
  • Toilets: Toilets and baby-changing: Accessible toilets and baby-changing facilities are available near both entrances on the lower ground floor. You can reach the lower ground floor by stairs from our main entrance and by stairs or lift from our courtyard entrance. For more information about visiting with children, see our ‘Families’ section below.
  • Lockers: Standard-sized lockers are located on the ground floor. The lockers operate with £1 coin retention locks, or you can borrow a free token from the entrance desk.  
  • Pets and assistance animals: Dogs are welcome in our grounds outside the Museum but please always keep them on a lead, never leave them unattended and pick up after them. Assistance animals are welcome throughout the Museum.

  • By car: The centre of Cambridge and the area around the Museum is subject to vehicle restrictions and we recommend not travelling by car into the centre if possible. There is no visitor parking. Limited Pay and Display and disabled parking is available on Trumpington Street. The nearest car parks are Grand Arcade (off Downing Street) and Queen Anne (Gonville Place).
  • By bus: Frequent buses are available throughout Cambridge city centre. The U bus from Eddington to Addenbrooke’s Hospital (via Cambridge train station) stops outside the Museum every day. The bus from Trumpington Park and Ride also stops outside the Museum. 
  • By train: Our nearest train station is Cambridge. It’s approximately a 20-minute walk and there are both taxis and frequent buses available. The U bus from the station stops outside the Museum every day. Turn left as you exit the station and cross the road to the bus stops on the far side.
