The Devil's Porridge Museum

Description

The Devil’s Porridge is a powerful and engaging museum that tells the story of one of the most important wartime sites in Britain. It explores the history of HM Factory Gretna, once the largest munitions factory in the world during World War One. The museum brings local and national history to life through interactive displays and real stories.

Visitors can explore galleries covering World War One, World War Two, and the Cold War. Exhibits include life in the trenches, the Quintinshill Rail Disaster, women’s wartime roles, and a recreated 1940s house. Artefacts, films, audio recordings, and photographs help explain how war shaped the local community.

Adult tickets cost £9.50, with concessions and children priced at £8.50, and family tickets available. Group and school visits are offered at discounted rates, with talks and café options available by booking.

Overall, The Devil’s Porridge Museum offers an informative and moving experience for all ages. It is well laid out, easy to access, and can be explored in around one to two hours. If you’re interested in wartime history and real human stories, this museum is well worth a visit.
