The Clitheroe Mystery Treasure Trail is a self-guided outdoor detective adventure set in the historic market town of Clitheroe, Lancashire. It follows a fun fictional story, “The Great Clitheroe Sausage Scandal”, where players help solve a mysterious crime. The Trail is designed for families, friends, and visitors looking to explore Clitheroe in an interactive way.
The Trail starts at the Castle Museum near the Castle Keep and follows a 1.2-mile circular route through Clitheroe’s streets and back to the Castle grounds. Participants solve detective-style clues hidden on existing buildings, permanent features, and monuments, eliminating suspects as they go. The experience is self-guided, suitable for ages 6–106, takes around 1.5 hours, includes a mobile text clue service for help, and gives all correct entries a chance to win a monthly £100 prize draw.
The Treasure Trail costs £9.99, with one Trail booklet suitable for 4–5 people. The Trail can be posted to you or downloaded instantly for immediate use. The same Trail can also be used for birthday parties, working best when split into small teams of 4–5 players, with adult support recommended for younger children.
