Sma Shott Cottages

Description

Sma Shott Cottages, discover the history of Paisley's world-famous weaving industry at the Sma' Shot Cottages, which preserves and maintains a key part of our town's cultural heritage for visitors from all over the world.

The Sma' Shot Cottages are owned and run by the Old Paisley Society, a registered charity who purchased the disused cottages in the 1980s and restored them to how they would have looked during the heyday of Paisley's weaving and textiles industry in the 18th and 19th centuries.

The museum features a weaver's cottage from the 1750s, which includes an exhibition room and working loom shop; across the garden you'll find the foreman's cottage from the 1840s, a much more affluent dwelling with a number of bedrooms as well as a parlour.

Free entry. If you are looking for Best place for day out with kids and families then this is the perfect destination offering fun, adventure, and unforgettable memories for everyone.

  • Tours: Guided tours operate every half hour on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays when the Cottages are open. You can find signage at the entrances telling you when the next tour will commence, or you can ask a volunteer. Groups of 12 or more people would be considered a large group, so please let us know in advance via our contact page to ensure that we can accommodate you on the day of your visit. For the best experience, please try to organise your visit one of the days the Cottages are open to the public and we have our full team of volunteers on hand.
  • Tea Room: Tea room is dedicated to Alexander Wilson (1766-1813), the "father of American ornithology" who was born in Paisley. Our tea room has a selection of cakes, sandwiches and soup as well as coffee and tea. Please follow the links below to find our menus, and please get in touch if you have any dietary queries. On Fridays, we offer a special afternoon tea to our visitors for £8.50. We would recommend that you contact us in advance of your visit if you wish to enjoy our afternoon tea, as this will allow us to ensure the tea room is fully stocked and prepared.
  • Gift Shop: At the end of a guided tour, visitors to the Cottages can enjoy the items on offer in our gift shop, found upstairs above the tearoom. We have a wide selection of gifts on offer including some exquisite Paisley scarves and ties, books on local history and photographs, and a range of hand-crafted products made by local Paisley people. Please ask our volunteers on hand for more information on anything you find. The upkeep of the Cottages relies heavily on donations from visitors and purchases from the gift shop, so we would love for you to come check out what we have on offer and contribute to the preservation of Paisley's weaving heritage.
