Description

Littlehampton Museum, located in a Grade II listed Manor House, explores the rich history of the West Sussex town from a fishing village to a seaside resort. It features over 50,000 items, including Roman archaeology, art, and social history.

Littlehampton Museum's mission is to make the local communities' collections as accessible as possible. As the collections contain almost 50,000 objects, it is impossible to display them all within the museum. In addition to traditional access through displays, exhibitions and talks, we are embracing digital platforms.

Entry to the museum is free for everyone. If you are looking for Best place for day out with kids and families then this is the perfect destination offering fun, adventure, and unforgettable memories for everyone.

Features

  • Family Events and Activities: This Easter holiday at the Museum, we need you to help us to design a brick castle fit for the Duchess Gwendolen to live in 😊 Add your castle to our display, or break it up and have another go!
  • Our Collections: Littlehampton Museum has been collecting items relating to the history of the town and surrounding villages since 1928. These collections cover a wide variety of categories and themes, from Archaeology to Art and from Social History to Photographs. With over 50,000 items it is not possible to display everything, and on these pages we hope to share some of our collection highlights, and recent acquisitions with you.
  • Exhibitions: Littlehampton Museum has partnered with Coastal Catalyst to empower local young people aged 13-25 to explore their creativity by producing original artworks inspired by the Town’s portrait of Gwendolen, Duchess of Norfolk, which hangs in the Town Council’s Millennium Chamber.
  • Small Displays: Currently on display in our Archaeology Gallery is a collection of medals, berets, and insignia generously bequeathed by the late Martin McKeown, a much-loved member of the local community and a distinguished United Nations peacekeeper.
  • Littlehampton at War: Using the Museum collection and archive we have created some brand new short videos exploring Littlehampton at War. You can find out about the forces based in Littlehampton during the war and just what life was like on the Home Front.
