Features

  • A Rich Heritage: The ancestral home of the world-renowned Gillow furniture family, Leighton Hall is still lived in today and is no stuffy museum - there aren’t any roped off areas here! Our friendly and enthusiastic guides will be happy to share with you the magic of Leighton Hall's colourful heritage and unique personality.
  • The Main Garden: The garden offers plenty of tranquil space where you are welcome to stroll, relax and explore. For flower lovers, the borders are at their best from late Spring to early Autumn with informal herbaceous beds and an abundance of climbing roses.
  • The Walled Garden: Leading off the main lawn, the walled garden is full of surprises! Inspect the ornamental plot full of vegetables from humble leeks and carrots to the more exotic stems of globe artichokes.
  • Bee Corner: Look at the Wildflower border, planted especially to encourage bees and pollinators and situated alongside our Bee Corner, where you’ll find lots of information about these fascinating and vital creatures.
  • The Insect Hotel: Why not "check in" and see if you can discover who's staying at the Insect Hotel.
  • The Caterpillar Maze: This is a must for children who love running round the interlocking paths and seeing if they can get to the middle without cheating! Don’t worry, it’s a path maze, rather than a hedge maze, so they won’t get lost!
  • The Herb Garden Pavilion: The Herb Garden Pavilion provides a shady spot and seating where visitors can enjoy a quiet break in the peace of the Walled Garden, whilst it has also been licensed for Wedding and Civil Partnership ceremonies so that couples can tie the knot in this most idyllic of settings.
  • The Woodland Walk: A winding path leads out of the main garden and into the Woodland Walk. It’s a beautiful place for a stroll at any time of year and a wondrous space for children to explore.
  • Loads to See and Do: A Tree Face Trail sheet, nature trail notes and a brass rubbing crayon and paper are provided in the children’s activity packs, and they will also find helpful and informative interpretation boards along the way.
  • Adventure Playground: If they still have the energy, there is a playground to enjoy with a climbing wall, swings and a slide, before tucking into a well-deserved ice cream!
  • Fun For All The Family: Family friendly tours with extra activities for children, craft corner in the studio during the summer holidays, adventure playground, maze, mini beasts, brass rubbings and tree face trail in the woodland walk, plus a free activity pack for all children.
  • Dramatic Displays: Set against the backdrop of our wonderful rolling parkland, there can be few more exciting and dramatic experiences than to watch beautiful birds of prey swooping from the sky to collect treats. Birds are flown at 3:30pm every day in the summer season (weather permitting) by expert falconer, Lindsay Bevan of Northern Sky Falconry.

Facilities

  • Food & Drinks: Our traditional tearooms are open to day visitors between 2pm - 5pm during the main season. Choose from a delicious selection of homemade cakes, traybakes, cream scones and sandwiches, not forgetting coffee, tea and soft drinks.
  • Gift Shop: Have a browse in our Gift Shop for a memento of your visit to Leighton. As well as lots of locally sourced items and souvenirs, we have plenty of reasonably priced lines for children.
  • Plant Stall: The perfect place for green fingered visitors to find a souvenir plant of their visit that supports our pollinator friendly philosophy. We also sell a selection of seasonal vegetables hand pickled daily from our garden.
