  • Galleries: The Herbert’s permanent galleries showcase objects drawn from the social history, archaeology and visual art collections. On the ground floor, the History Gallery tells the story of Coventry and its people from the medieval period to the present day. It includes sections which look at the city’s watchmaking and ribbon weaving industries, the impact of the Second World War and the boom years of the 1950s and ‘60s. 
  • Collections: Please note that objects from our collections are not always featured in our current displays or exhibitions. Archaeology, Social and Industrial History, Visual Arts, Archives, Natural History.
  • The Archive: Coventry Archives houses a range of documents charting the history of Coventry.The collection includes archives documenting the history of Coventry, highlights include the Charter of Incorporation of the City of Coventry, Coventry City Council records, Building plans, audio visual material and private accessions from individuals and organisations.
  • Photography & Filming: We invite visitors to take pictures during their visit, however, we do ask that you do not use flash, and take notice of any no photography signs (these will be placed next to certain artworks and within certain temporary exhibitions).

  • Parking: There are several Pay & Display car parks available within walking distance. For directions using sat-nav or route planners use the postcode CV1 5QP. Alternatively, a park and ride service for the city centre is operated from War Memorial Park, Kenilworth Road in the south of the City.
  • Food & drinks: The café, run by Baxters Baristas, will continue to operate as usual. You can visit the café independently of the museum via the courtyard on Jordan Well.

  • By Bus: All buses terminate in the city centre, and most buses stop at Pool Meadow bus station. The Herbert is approximately 5 minutes walk from Pool Meadow, and 10 minutes from most other stopping places in the city centre. There are signposts across the city directing people to the Herbert, and we are situated next to the Cathedral so are easy to find. 
  • By Train: From Coventry station it is a 10 - 15 minute walk into the city centre. Buses and taxis are also available from the railway station.
  • By Bike: There are some bike storage racks outside of the museum and nearby on University Square. There is also rack storage at Coventry Train Station.
  • By Car: At  Coventry inner ring-road, turn off at Junction 3 or 5 and follow the brown signs for the Herbert. There are several Pay & Display car parks available within walking distance.
