Galway Atlantaquaria is Ireland’s largest native species aquarium, beautifully located in Salthill overlooking Galway Bay along the Wild Atlantic Way. The aquarium showcases the incredible diversity of life in oceans, rivers, lakes and canals, featuring everything from sharks that swim in Irish seas to freshwater fish that glide along rivers and tranquil lakes.

Key attractions include the Ocean Zone, a deepwater exhibit home to the aquarium’s largest predators including bream, wreckfish, bass, and smoothhound sharks commonly found in Irish waters. The facility features fascinating exhibits such as the intelligent octopus display showcasing these incredible problem-solving invertebrates, the Waterfall freshwater exhibit with perch and rudd, and the vibrant Tropical Zone housing stingrays, cichlids, and red-bellied piranhas from the Amazon Basin. 

Online ticket prices offer excellent value with adults at €15.00, children at €10.00, under 2s free, and family tickets (2+2) at €45.00, with senior and student discounts available at €12.00. Walk-in prices are slightly higher, making advance online booking the most economical choice.

  • Tropical Zone: Our Tropical Zone Has Stingrays, Cichlids And Red-bellied Piranhas. Piranhas Are Native To The Amazon Basin In South America. They Prey On Aquatic And Land Animals And Have Razor-sharp Teeth That Cut Into Their Prey With Ease.
  • The Ray Pool: The Ray Pool Is Home To Our Rays, Small Species Of Shark Including Dogfish And Large Flatfish Such As Turbot. The Ray Pool Provides A Large Shallow Pool Ideal For Animals That Like To Settle On The Seabed.

  • By Car: Travelling from the East – from the Dublin Road, follow signs for Galway West or Salthill. Follow the road until you get to the promenade. Follow the road until you get to the roundabout in Salthill. The aquarium is just off the roundabout. Travelling from the West – Continue on the coast road until you get to the promenade. Turn right on the roundabout in Salthill. The aquarium is on the left. Free Parking for cars is available within the Aquarium Complex and there is an overflow car park available just across the road.
  • By Bus: Bus Route 401 — From Galway City Centre (Eyre Square) to Salthill.
  • By Coach: Coach Parking is available along the promenade. There is no coach parking available within the aquarium complex. For special access requirements, please contact us in advance.
