Welcome to the Buckinghamshire County Museum, Discover Bucks Museum, in the historic heart of Aylesbury, tells the story of the people and landscapes of Buckinghamshire, from 200 million years ago to today. It showcases the best of Bucks heritage: archaeology, social history, natural history, geology, art, costumes and photographs. 

We also house the famous Lenborough Hoard, one of the largest hoards of Anglo-Saxon silver coins ever found. Look out for our special exhibitions and events held throughout the year. Our Roald Dahl Children's Gallery is an interactive wonder, with hands-on discovery and amazing science inspired by Roald Dahl’s stories perfect for Kids Birthday Parties.

  • Ground Floor: Discover Bucks Galleries (our central galleries) – Our exciting new galleries are packed with objects to delight and amaze. Discover the story of Bucks people and landscapes from 200 million years ago to today. 
  • Ground Floor: Georgian room featuring changing exhibitions.
  • First Floor: Tudor house and wall painting.
  • First Floor: Enjoy a varied and ever changing schedule of temporary exhibitions.
  • First Floor: The Embroiderers’ Guild Sew New! exhibition.
  • Roald Dahl Children’s Gallery: Open on Saturdays and Sundays and Bucks school holidays.
  • Victorian Walled garden: Outdoor seating available.

Facilities

  • Parking: There is no available parking outside the Museum so we advise visitors to park in either the Friarscroft Car park (HP20 2TE) or Exchange Street car park (HP20 1QY).Friarscroft car park has lots of available spaces and is very reasonable. It is next to Morrisons on the A413, with a short walk up the hill turning left into Church Street to reach the Museum.
  • Food & Drinks: The café, garden and shop, will be open. The ground floor is accessible for wheelchair users and via a lift to the first floor.
  • Toilets: The toilets, including access and baby changing facilities, are open and cleaned regularly.

Birthday Party Details

Brilliant Birthday Parties: Book your Brilliant Birthday Party at the Roald Dahl Children’s Gallery and have a wondercrump day!

Your two-hour long party will include:

  • A visit to our Roald Dahl Children’s Gallery for an hour. 
  • Private use of one of our Halls for an hour before or after visiting the gallery with a basic birthday theme decoration.
  • Colouring and puzzle activity table.
  • Balloon for each child.
  • Unlimited squash.

Cost: £12.50 per child (minimum 12 children per party).

Timings:

  • Saturdays: Morning 10.00am – 12.00pm | Afternoon 1.30pm – 3.30pm
  • Sundays: Afternoon 12.30pm – 2.30pm

Optional Extras:

  • Lunch box: £5 per child (cheese roll, fruit yoyo, crisps & chocolate bar)

  • By car: Aylesbury is 25 minutes off the M25 via the A41. Driving from the M25 – leave the motorway at junction 20 and take the A41 to Aylesbury & Hemel Hempstead. Follow signs to Aylesbury and, once in Aylesbury, to the town centre.
  • By train: Aylesbury is an hour by train from London Marylebone. The train station is a short walk from the Museum, follow the signs to the Market Square. From here head to the top left corner (Chancellors estate agents is on your left on the corner). Turn left onto Market Street. Take the next right onto Temple Street. Go past the Queen’s Head pub on your right. Keep going straight onto Church Street, then you will see our big black gates on the right hand side.
  • By bus: The Bus Station is situated very close to Market Square. From here head to the top left corner (Chancellors estate agents is on your left on the corner). Turn left onto Market Street.
