Description

Battlefield Line Railway is a heritage railway running through the beautiful Leicestershire countryside, offering visitors a nostalgic journey back to the golden age of rail travel. It is the last remaining section of the historic Ashby and Nuneaton Joint Railway, originally opened in 1873. The railway runs between Shackerstone, Market Bosworth, and Shenton, making it a relaxed and scenic attraction for families, railway enthusiasts, and day-trippers.

The experience begins at Shackerstone Station, the headquarters of the railway, where visitors can explore a small railway museum, browse the souvenir shop, and enjoy refreshments in the Victorian Tea Rooms. The train journey covers around five miles, running alongside the Ashby Canal, past farmland and villages, before stopping at Market Bosworth Station and continuing to the award-winning Shenton Station. At Shenton, visitors can watch the locomotive run around the train, chat with the engine crew, enjoy snacks and drinks, and visit unique attractions such as a glass-blowing studio.

Adult tickets cost £15.00, concessions are £10.00, and a family ticket is £40.00. Children under 3 travel free, while dogs or bicycles can be taken onboard for £3.00 each, making it a flexible option for families and walkers exploring the area.
