Amersham Museum cares for around 12,000 items relating to the history of the town, its residents and the surrounding area. From photographs to maps, lace to agricultural tools, we look after a time-capsule of local stories.

  • Families: Our museum has lots of family-friendly hands-on exhibitions and we encourage families to explore the galleries and object boxes and garden. 
  • Role play: Around the museum there are costumes for dressing up and lots of hats to try on. Upstairs in the Tudor Gallery you can role play at the banquet table and dress up like a Tudor.
  • Trails: There is a Nature Trail around the museum and Town Trail. The stewards at the front desk are happy to help with them. 
  • Craft Cart: Upstairs in the Timeline Gallery there is a craft cart full of activities and resources to use. Get creative and make something inspired by your visit.
  • Toys: In this room there are also some toy boxes ideal for toddlers to enjoy playing with.
  • Garden: Please ask our friendly stewards for the Garden Toy Box. It’s full of traditional games and toys for you to enjoy.
  • Events: During Half Term and School Holidays we run family Create! Workshops. Please see the Events Diary for details and follow us on social media for posts of new events.
  • Neurodiversity: You can explore the museum in advance of your visit using our Visual Story .  These pages can also be printed and provided to you when you visit if required in advance.
  • Sensory Kits: You can borrow one of our FREE SEND Discovery Bags. Please ask at the reception desk. They include ear defenders, magnifying glass, fidget toys, torches and can be used how you would like to help you enjoy exploring the galleries.
  • Quiet Space: There is a Take a Break Box filled with books and puzzles. Please use this in the galleries or take it out into the garden if you need to find a tranquil space to rest and relax.
  • Visually impaired visitors: We are currently working on having our display information in audio and large print.  In the meantime, our knowledgeable stewards are happy to assist with your visit. 
  • Hearing impaired visitors: We have a hearing loop available at our reception; please ask our staff who will be happy to help.

Parking: The nearest car park is just off Broadway Amersham Old Town car park , about 300m from the museum.  Payment is by card or RingGo; this car park includes some designated disabled spaces and electric charging points.
