St Mary's School, Hampstead is Independent Primary school in Camden for kids aged 2 to 11 (Gender - Girls )
They look forward to meeting you when you come to visit St Mary’s School, Hampstead where they celebrate the uniqueness of every girl and rejoice in their success. They foster a culture of care and support whilst maintaining a rigorous, challenging curriculum. At St Mary’s School they believe there are four key qualities which we instil in our girls. We encourage the children to be risk takers, not only in their play and extra curricular activities but also in their learning. We teach the girls to be resilient, not to fall at the first hurdle and to understand that every mistake they make, the more they learn. The children at St Mary’s School are respectful, not just to each other but to themselves. Finally we ask them to be reflective, on their faith, their behaviour and their academic work.
Key Stage 1
In Key Stage 1 at St Mary’s School we follow the National Curriculum and supplement this with the Independent Schools Examination Board curriculum. This means they are able to offer an extremely broad and balanced curriculum focusing on individual strengths and talents. We believe that this broad curriculum allows for great enrichment across the whole school.
Key Stage 2
In Key Stage 2 at St Mary’s School we follow the National Curriculum and supplement this with the Independent Schools Examination Board curriculum. This means they are able to offer an extremely broad and balanced curriculum focusing on individual strengths and talents. We believe that this broad curriculum allows for great enrichment across the whole school. The curriculum provides opportunities for all children to learn and achieve, promotes their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development and prepares them for the many opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life.
Creative Curriculum
At St. Mary’s School, we teach using the Creative Curriculum. This approach uses a single topic to deliver all aspects of the curriculum. By linking all of the academic subjects, learning becomes motivating, purposeful and real. The teachers plan engaging, innovative units of work, beginning with “stunning starters”, moving to a “marvellous middle” and ending with a “fabulous finish”, so that children remain motivated and excited by their learning journey.
Sport
Physical Education at St. Mary’s is varied and exciting. Pupils experience a range of activities from Gymnastics to Swimming and Athletics to Rock Climbing. They have a well-equipped hall on-site and the extensive outside space has been recently been enhanced. Climbing equipment has been installed and the full-size netball court has been upgraded allowing football, cricket and tennis clubs to be introduced. The School also uses many of our local facilities such as Swiss Cottage Leisure Centre, Hampstead Heath and Regents Park.
Clubs
Excellent extra-curricular provision, both at lunchtime and after school, is available for children, mostly at no additional cost. Our pupils are encouraged to do something they have never tried before whilst also improving on those activities they already love. Extra-curricular activities are a time for pupils to stretch their imaginations and push their boundaries. Whether academic, creative or sporting, pupils find their confidence to do more during these activities.
Selection Criteria: Selective
St Mary's School is non-selective, so Year 6 destination schools vary by year. They have built strong relationships with a fantastic range of schools and we always encourage parents to send their child to the school where they will thrive both academically and socially.
