2-13 Years

Description

Sandroyd School is Independent Secondary school in Not applicable for kids aged 2 to 13 (Gender - 2 to 13 )

The location, in the centre of over 500 acres of fields, woods and parkland, is idyllic. The stunning environment allows pupils to take part in a wide variety of sports, to learn outside of the classroom, and, most importantly, to be able to just romp about outdoors. There is untold value in giving children the freedom and space to grow and develop in a safe setting.Boys and girls need nurturing and stretching in equal measure. Most importantly, it is crucial that they are able to appreciate, understand and value each other. After all, life is co-educational, and we are at our very heart, a family school.

Facilities

Pre Prep
Situated in the original walled garden of the Sandroyd estate, the Pre-Prep building is purpose-built , designed by an architect in 2004, to provide an appropriate space for EYFS and Key Stage 1 learning.  There are a number of adjoining classrooms, allowing children from different year groups to be separated during specific learning tasks, as well as providing opportunities to join together to share learning experiences. The classes are kept small so that each child has the individual care and attention they need; enabling them to reach their own personal goals.

Prep
They believe that the formative years of childhood are at Prep School and during this time they encourage all of our pupils to develop vital life skills – not just for their time at school, but also for the rest of their lives. They nurture pupils to be ambitious and try their hardest in all they do – to embody the school’s motto (Niti est Nitere) “to strive is to shine”. They also encourage them to communicate well, to listen and respond to the needs of others; to learn independently, as well as learning to be a good team member; to have confidence, as well as learning to be resilient, and to persevere when the going gets tough. All of this is at the very heart of what they do both in and out of the classroom.

Things to note

BEYOND THE CLASSROOM
Of course academic results are crucial to all that we do at Sandroyd, but in addition, we place equal importance towards the essential character education of our children. They believe that the formative years of childhood are at Prep School and during this time they encourage all of our pupils to develop vital life skills – not just for their time at school, but also for the rest of their lives.

MUSIC
Music is at the heart of school life.  Sandroyd children's enjoyment and enthusiasm is palpable and you will rarely walk around the school building without hearing music filtering down the corridors. Classroom music lessons are fun, often practical, and include singing, composing, listening, and a cross-curricular approach which includes dance and drama.

DRAMA
From Reception to Year 8, all children develop their speaking and listening skills, their imaginations and their acting talents through Drama. Christmas celebrations are a highlight of the year. Children in the pre-prep (Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2) proudly stage their own Christmas Nativity in our Theatre. Children in Years 3 and 4 take part in a Christingle in the Middle, and the prep school (Years 3 and above) end the term with a Carol Service.

DANCE
The dance clubs allow Sandroyd children to enjoy the physical and social benefits of dance in a safe, caring, positive and informal environment. With clubs for all age groups, our children can build their confidence and social skills, learning discipline and respect, whilst developing their basic dance technique, coordination, musicality, balance, posture and rhythm.
