Gayhurst School is Independent Primary school in Buckinghamshire for kids aged 3 to 11 (Gender - Mixed )

Gayhurst is a truly special, happy and purposeful community, where your children will benefit from an excellent foundation to learning and personal development in their formative years, preparing them suitably for many of the challenges they will encounter throughout their lives. Welcome to Gayhurst, a school where we value pupils’ happiness, social and emotional development as highly as we do their academic achievement. It is our privilege to support children in the formative years of their education.Educating children aged from 3 to 11 years old, Gayhurst is committed to offering its pupils a broad, rounded, co-educational experience in a happy and caring academic environment, where their pastoral needs and wellbeing are paramount. Appreciating how quickly the world and education are changing, we are focused on enriching children through all of their educational experiences and developing their skills and character so that they become confident, independent and resilient individuals full of enthusiasm and curiosity. Focusing on their personal development alongside their academic and physical development enables them to develop their emotional intelligence and collaborate and interact with one another respectfully so that they can positively contribute to the school community and wider society.

Facilities

Junior School
The Junior School is for children from three to seven years of age. It has benefited from two recent building projects and now has modern, well-equipped classrooms, individual tuition rooms, IT resource and activity rooms, a Junior library, all-weather playground and an adventure playground. The children arrive in either our Nursery School, aged three or Reception, age four.Class sizes are small and we believe this to be a pre-requisite of successful education. The Reception groups have approximately 16 to 18 children. Classroom assistants help with all the year groups but particularly with the youngest children. Entry into the Reception classes is by registration. There are no interview procedures at this young age. The parents of children registered for entry into Reception are contacted approximately eleven months before to confirm their acceptance of a place. A deposit is required at this stage. Entry higher up the school would normally include some test procedures together with a request for references in the Autumn term. However, tests for children whose families are relocating to the area take place throughout the year. Children in the Junior School are taught most of their subjects by their form teacher although specialist staff teach them for Spanish, Music, PE and Games.

Senior School
The aim is to enrich learning during the preparatory years, fostering independence, resilience and confidence in our children. At the start of Year 3, children transition to the Senior School where their independence is carefully developed with the introduction of some movement around school and subject specialist teaching to go alongside the majority of lessons taught by a Form teacher. The process is designed as a gradual one and by the start of Year 4, our aim is that all children are confident and resilient enough to move freely around the Senior School. The Form teacher remains an integral part of the children’s daily lives at Gayhurst, up until their transition to Secondary School at the end of Year 6. Each Form in Years 4 to 6 have two members of staff who oversee the well-being and progress of the children and have three designated form times each day which encompass

Features

Things to note

Trips and Visits
Trips, both curricular and extra-curricular, occur regularly throughout the year and consideration for others and an appreciation of their place in the world are two of the key characteristics Gayhurst wishes to instil in its pupils during these experiences.Gayhurst offers a wide range of opportunities and experiences for pupils in all year groups over the course of an academic year, both at home and abroad. A programme of age-appropriate educational visits is planned throughout the year to both support and enhance the work the children are undertaking and, in the Senior School, residential courses have been carefully chosen. Within these courses, activities are undertaken to challenge pupils both physically and mentally and at all times looking to develop their independence, confidence and resilience.

Activities
From Reception to Year 6, all children are encouraged to participate in a variety of clubs and activities that take place before, during and after school; all which help to stimulate and broaden their experiences, interests and skills beyond the normal curriculum.Where possible, activities are run by Gayhurst staff in order to extend relationships formed in the classroom and to create a stronger bond throughout the school between staff and pupils. However, where necessary, coaches are employed to enable pupils to benefit from specialist knowledge and expertise, such as in Ballet, Chess, Golf and Judo.

Breakfast and Supper Club
At Gayhurst, we are fully aware of the demands and pressures that parents face during the working week. With this in mind, alongside the growing number of activities running before school, Gayhurst also runs a Breakfast Club for pupils prior to the normal opening times of the school. Breakfast Club runs from 7.25am – 7.55am and is available to all pupils from Nursery to Year 6, costing £5.00 per session and this is supervised by a member of staff. Breakfast Club offers a variety of tasty and nutritious options for the most important meal of the day from croissants, fruit and pastries, to toast, cereal and porridge.
