Forres Sandle Manor School is Independent Secondary school in Non-selective for kids aged 3 to 13 (Gender - 3 to 13 )
Forres Sandle Manor School (FSM) is an independent day and boarding school for boys and girls aged 2 to 16, situated in the small town of Fordingbridge, Hampshire. Set in beautiful grounds on the edge of the New Forest, our School’s location was recorded as far back as the Doomsday Book. Today, they provide a holistic, rounded education that prepares children for the next stage of their education and for adult life. With an average class size of less than 15 across the whole school, everyone at Forres Sandle Manor is well known and nobody is left out. The school is full of kind, caring and hard-working pupils and inspirational teachers who help to instil a love of learning in all that they do.
Nursery
Forres Sandle Manor School offers a unique Nursery experience. Set in the Pre Prep building of our small school, they have a lot of space for our smallest pupils! Along with a large room setting with various themed ‘stations’, the nursery pupils have a dedicated outside space which is under-cover so suitable for all weathers. They also get to experience our enclosed Lower School playground…which includes a pirate ship climbing frame! However, most of the children get excited when we say that we are going to the Forest School – a fantastic area set in an area of the woodland, which has a wide range of toys, swings, rope walk, mud kitchen, log stools and a wattle and daub hut. Come rain or shine. The children will experience the great outdoors as part of their usual day. They also have the opportunity to experience our large playing fields – running around, playing games and a range of sports in a stunning and safe setting.
Pre Prep
True education begins long before exams are even on the horizon: the way we are taught in our early years has a huge influence on the long-term love of learning and the person we will eventually become.Instead of hot-housing, we give children the most precious thing of all – time. It’s only by having time to explore new concepts that a child is able to ask the questions that might not have occurred to anyone else, to make connections to their past experiences, and to become fully immersed in a subject.Teaching in the Pre Prep is predominantly by class teachers except for PE, art, music, ICT and languages, which are taught by specialists. There is no formal homework – just regular reading, spellings and times tables to learn – and although we assess children regularly, there are no formal exams. The aim in the Lower School is to create a lively and vibrant environment which promotes an independence of spirit, a willingness to ‘have a go’ and a determination to succeed.
Prep
The Prep School takes children on an exciting journey from which they emerge as confident, accomplished teenagers who are ready to leave us and excited to join their senior schools. In years 5 and 6 we lay the foundations for the ISEB Common Entrance (CE) syllabuses which are then taught in years 7 and 8 as children prepare to sit examinations in English, maths, science, and French. Like many schools, they have opted out of the ISEB CE Humanities examinations which allows us to take a much more flexible and creative approach to teaching history, geography and religious studies. In geography, this sees the children undertaking an extensive field study in the local area and then analysing, evaluating and presenting their findings.Alongside the academic subjects, children in the Prep School also have timetabled lessons in art, DT, music, PE, life skills, ICT and games.
School Houses
Over their time at the School, children complete a range of activities in their houses, and normally become fiercely competitive about winning points! House points are awarded for good conduct, excellent work, superb effort and for going above-and-beyond in their normal life at the School. House points aren’t just won in traditional areas such as sports, pupils can win points in every part of School life, including art and photography competitions, recitals and the annual House Singing competition.House points are celebrated in every Friday morning assembly and the coveted Hartley House Cup is awarded every term to the winning team.
Tree Tots
Forest sessions allow children to grow in confidence as they explore with freedom, build social and communication skills through play as well as developing their knowledge and understanding, physical skills, whilst also providing opportunities for development in such areas as problem-solving and very importantly, resilience.During our sessions, we offer both a creative activity as well as the opportunity to allow your child to engage in their own, all-important child-led play. At the end of a session, we all enjoy a story or songs around the log circle with a warming hot chocolate or a marshmallow in the winter months and a cold drink and snack in the warmer months.
