Description

Elmhurst School for Boys is Independent Primary school in Croydon for kids aged 3 to 11 (Gender - Boys )

Educating Boys for over 150 Years, the oldest ‘root’ of Elmhurst can be traced back to 1869 when the Carr family, arriving in the Croydon area in need of a school for their three sons, established “A School for Little Boys”. Founded by the husband and wife team, the school quickly established itself. On her husband’s death Mrs Elizabeth Carr took over the reins; the first mention of one of her boys’ success at entering Whitgift School was a line in their admissions register of 1879.At Elmhurst School for Boys, we nurture and value every pupil, challenging them to be brilliant and laying the foundations for a happy and successful future.Providing an outstanding 11+ education, we deliver forward-thinking educational excellence through a broad and engaging curriculum with literacy at its heart and a commitment to doing the best we can for ourselves and those around us.

Facilities

Nursery (3-4 years)
In recent years, in response to parent demand and clear emotional and educational benefits, we have added a Pre-Reception class to the Elmhurst School for Boys journey and boys are now able to join us from 3 years old. From their arrival at Little Elms, our young pupils are given the opportunity to learn routines and behaviours that will support and enhance their learning journey. Mrs King and her team are experienced nursery leaders who understand how to support the boys emotionally and educationally, ensuring they are well prepared for life at Elmhurst.

Pre-Prep (4-6 years)
The school buildings of no 46 and no 48 South Park Hill Road are home to our pre-prep learners. A purpose built extension which gives a light filled space provides a spacious base for our Little Elms, situated in the very heart of the school. An adjacent decking area gives sheltered outdoor play space which allows boys to enjoy being part of the school whilst being slightly separate.

Prep (7-11 years)
Elmhurst School for Boys is a small, family school and if you visit and asked our pupils about the Pre-Prep and Prep schools they may look at you in a slightly puzzled manner. We are one school. However, there are some key development milestones at play during these years which mean from an organisational perspective it is valuable to create distinctions in the educational journey. In the Prep we signal that development subtly

Features

Things to note

Clubs and Activities
Being a small school does not prevent us from offering a wide selection of clubs that provide opportunities for boys to develop their learning beyond the school day. They are constantly developing our clubs offering, listening to boys and responding to their preferences. It is also great to hear suggestions from parents and we actively look to refresh and develop the programme every term.Parents are able to see the options available for their sons on our school site and booking and payment is facilitated through an online booking system, Magic Booking. The system makes it easy for parents to manage payments, pay with childcare vouchers where appropriate or even spread payments across a period of time.

Holiday Club
The holiday club is somewhat legendary amongst the Elmhurst community and still attracts boys long after they leave the school. A far cry from the franchise holiday supervision model seen in other schools, at Elmhurst holiday club means boys are in their own school setting and looked after by the Early Years team for the duration of the break.
