Description
London Zoo is the world's oldest scientific zoo. It was opened in London in 1828 and was originally intended to be used as a collection for scientific study. But in 1847, the zoo opened its gates for the public. Currently, the zoo houses various species of mammals, reptiles, birds, fishes, amphians, invertebrates with 19035 animals, making it one of the largest collections in the United Kingdom.
The zoo also has a lodging facilty situated in extraordinary situations inside the Land of the Lions exhibit, where guests can stay overnight within the roaring distance from Asiatic Lions. Guests staying at the ZSL London Zoo Lodges also enjoy three educational and entertaining tours around the Zoo including a sunset tour, torch lit night tour and an early morning tour.

What to see
- Come meet the tigers - The Tiger Territory enclosure is carefully designed to encourage the resident Sumatran tigers to behave as they would in the wild. Tigers are enthusiastic tree climbers and here the high walkway with floor-to-ceiling windows allows you to see the big cats and their young lounging in the treetops.
- Wander through the Madagascan shrub forest and see how many of our ring-tailed lemurs you can spot
- Overcome your fears and take a Spider Selfie with the resident arachnids in Europe’s only walk-through spider experience.
- Gorilla Kingdom brings the African rainforest to the heart of London. You’ll be able to meet Africa’s most exciting residents, featuring a colony of western lowland gorillas.
- Penguin Beach recreates a South American beach landscape in the heart of London, with stunning colony of Humboldt penguins.The exhibit features a large pool with stunning underwater viewing areas so you can see how the flippered friends fly under water. The exhibit’s 1200 sq metre pool holds 450,000 litres of water!

Birthday Party Details
Adult or child, you are never too old for a really wild party at ZSL London Zoo. They have a range of options depending on your requirements, group size and budget.
Pick and choose from their flexible packages to create a perfect party with added animal magic. From entertainment ot menu choices all requirements are catered to.
The Zoo’s opening hours remain the same, but visitors need to pre-book either a morning or afternoon slot. Morning slots are from 10am-2pm and Afternoon slots are from 2pm - 6pm, with last admission at 5pm.
ZSL London Zoo is open every day of the year except Christmas Day.

- By car - ZSL London Zoo’s car park is outside the congestion charging zone on Outer Circle, Regent’s Park. Sat nav: NW1 4SX. Cars and motorbikes are charged at £14.50 for visitors to the Zoo
- A disabled parking bay is available in front of the Zoo entrance, with other dedicated spaces on the main road (up to four hours) and in the main car park
- By bike - Cycling to the Zoo is easy. There is a public bike shed in the car park opposite the main Zoo entrance
- Walking - London Zoo is easily accessible on foot from many parts of London – less than a mile from Camden, Kentish Town, Chalk Farm, Primrose Hill, Belsize Park, St Johns Wood, Marylebone, Regent’s Park Estate, Euston, Lisson Grove and Swiss Cottage
