Windmill Animal Farm, the Slinger Family’s home for four generations, opened to the public on 1st August 1992. Families can enjoy the Farmyard Friends Encounter, meeting Guinea Pigs, Rabbits, and occasionally other farm animals, or explore Cuddly Critters & Mini-Beasts, home to reptiles and spiders such as Bearded Dragons, Pythons, Chameleons, and Tarantulas. Daily animal experiences include bottle feeding, meeting baby Pygmy Goats, and interacting with friendly farmyard animals. Adventure options include the Monstrous Maize Maze, outdoor obstacle trails, indoor soft play, swings, slides, climbing walls, zip wires, pedal tractors, motorised digger, with some activities requiring additional charges.

Guests can also enjoy Quad Barrel Rides, a 22-flavour ice cream shed, and sensory soft play for toddlers.   • Farmyard Friends Encounter: The Farmyard Friends Encounter is an indoor animal petting experience perfect for families. Meet Guinea Pigs and Rabbits up close; occasionally other farmyard friends are available.
  • Cuddly Critters & Mini-Beasts: Cuddly Critters is home to reptiles and spiders in a luxurious permanent habitat: Bearded Dragons, Leopard and Crested Geckos, Reticulated and Jungle Jaguar Pythons, Salmon Boa Constrictor, Yemen Chameleon, and Chilli Rose Tarantula spider. Educational experience to learn about exotic animals from around the world.
  • Farm Train & Mere Trail: The farm train is included in every visit and runs daily to Lake View Station starting at 11:00am, with trains every half hour until 4:00pm. 15″ gauge miniature railway spans over one mile. Visitors can disembark, enjoy scenery, picnics, and play areas. Constructed by Austin Moss, who built the engines and track; run by Austin and volunteers. Mere Trail links train stations, where visitors can see Llamas, Mangalitza Pigs, Fallow Deer, and Highland Cattle.

The farm, which is less than a mile from Martin Mere Wild Fowl Trust, is easy to find by following the brown signs at all key junctions.
  • From the M6, recommend taking junction 27 on to the the A5209 and follow the signs through Burscough Bridge.
