The Old Operating Theatre Museum and Herb Garret at 9a St Thomas Street is a museum of surgical history and one of the oldest surviving operating theatres. It is located in the garret of St Thomas's Church, Southwark, in London, on the original site of St Thomas' Hospital.

Housed in the attic of the early eighteenth-century church of the old St Thomas’ Hospital, this atmospheric museum offers a unique insight into the history of medicine and surgery. The original timber framed Herb Garret was once used to dry and store herbs for patients’ medicines and in 1822 an operating theatre was included.

History of the Collection: The Old Operating Theatre Museum & Herb Garret has an exciting collection of medical objects, images, books and archives spanning the 17th Century up to the early 20th Century.
The Museum itself is housed in an original part of the authentic architecture of old St Thomas’ Hospital, within St Thomas’ Church, Southwark, London, opened in 1703. The medical displays presented within the two main rooms of the old hospital architecture includes: surgical and pharmaceutical objects, hospital furniture, a small collection of human pathology specimens and a small image collection.
