The National Reptile Zoo in Kilkenny City is Ireland’s only reptile zoo, showcasing over 100 fascinating animals and more than 50 species. It invites visitors of all ages to become part of a mysterious world filled with reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates. Open seven days a week (10 am–6 pm), it offers an educational and memorable day out.

Families can explore habitats designed to mimic the animals’ natural environments and learn through observation and interaction. There are hourly Encounter sessions where visitors can touch and hold friendlier animals while chatting with keepers. VIP Experiences give guests a behind-the-scenes look at zookeeping and daily zoo tasks.

Admission prices are Adults €16.00, Children (3–17) €13.50, Under-3s go free, with Family Tickets ranging from €43.00 to €68.00. Private Encounters range from €65.00 to €210.00.

Habitat: They have over 150 creatures at the National Reptile Zoo, each housed in a habitat that has been carefully designed to mimic it’s natural environment. Learn about reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates – observe, watch, listen, read, ask and interact – we are happy to make you a part of this less known world!
Encounters: Get to chat with our zookeepers and have hands-on interactions with our creatures during our hourly Encounters. The ‘encounters’ that run through the day at the zoo offer visitors personalised and detailed Q&A sessions with zoo-keepers, as well as hands-on interactions with resident animals.
VIP Experiences: The ultimate experience from the National Reptile Zoo! Perfect for animal and zoo enthusiasts, this amazing opportunity will allow you to see and/or participate in daily tasks around the zoo and discover what it’s like to work as a Zoo keeper.

It’s a 10 minute walk from MacDonagh train/bus station. The nearest City Bus stops are Newpark Shopping Centre or Nowlan park, on the KK2 town service.
Turn into Hebron Business Park at the traffic lights at Michael Lyng Motors. Take the first left after the Value Centre Cash and Carry. You’ll find us on the right hand side.
