The Climbing Unit boasts over 1100 m² of climbing, including both bouldering and roped climbing, training area and circuit wall.

What to see

Kids Clubs: Kids club lessons are open to existing and new kids club members aged between 5 and 16 years of age. The sessions for 5-8 years are 1 hour long and focus on building confidence and having fun on both the roped climbing wall and the bouldering walls.

Supervised Climbing(under 14 years old): Those under 14 years of age or those who have not fulfilled the above criteria can not climb unsupervised at any time.They must be supervised by either an adult member or a qualified instructor.

Birthday Party Details

The Climbing Unit has a purpose-built roped climbing area, a separate heated party room and options for parties to suit those aged 5 and above. All parties combine activities on the traversing walls, climbing challenges and games all chosen to suit the age group. Depending on age, ability and preference the venue offers:

Roped Climbing
Bouldering
Traversing walls

They use lots of different areas of the wall, so everyone gets to climb on different angles and try different types of moves. Their party packages all include entry, exclusive use of the party room for 30 minutes after your session and instruction.

Food: Cafe can not provide food for the parties. You are welcome to bring your own cakes, drinks and snacks.

Prices are per person depending on length of party, with a minimum party size of 4.

1 hour party costs £10.50pp
1.5 hour party costs £11.50pp
2 hour party costs £12.50pp

A deposit of £20 is required per hour per instructor to be paid when making the booking.

5 to 7-year-olds: Maximum of 6 children per instructor due to the size and higher dependency of smaller children within the climbing environment.

8 to 16-year-olds: You can bring a maximum of 8 children per instructor.

The postcode will take you to within 100 metres of the wall but on the main road; from the main road look out for signs for Mason’s Place Business Park and turn into the set of gates highest up the road (there is a slight incline so this will make sense upon arrival). Follow the road around the entry lane and The Climbing Unit is the large white and red unit directly in front of and next to Derby Brewing Company.

Driving east on the A52, follow the signs for Chaddesden/Spondon. Take the fourth exit off the roundabout, go past Asda, through Chaddesden and you’ll come across Mason’s Place on your left after the cemetery. This avoids tailbacks on the Pentagon Island – and could give you an extra 30 minutes climbing time!
