Features

  • Explore the City Farm: St Werburgh’s City Farm cares for five outdoor sites offering an open-access city farm and urban gardens all year round, providing essential community services. All farm sites are located in and around Ashley Vale, St Werburghs, Bristol, BS2 9YJ. Directions to St Werburgh’s City Farm can be found online.
  • City Farm’s Small-holding: The farm has a small holding open to visitors, allowing city residents to learn about farming animals, raising livestock, and growing food in an urban setting. Nearby is an adventure play space and the award-winning City Farm Cafe, serving local organic food including produce from the farm in a hobbitesque space.
  • Community Garden: The Community Garden is a 1-acre site on the south side of the graffiti tunnel on Mina Road. The sloped site features a mix of raised beds with flowers, vegetables, and soft fruit, surrounded by a border of trees. Terraced areas offer sunny spots to observe butterflies, birds, and bees at work pollinating the flowers. The garden is cared for by volunteers and the Supported Training team; visitors are asked to respect the site.
  • Propagation Place: Located next to the small holding, the Propagation Place is a growing space with raised beds, wheelchair-accessible paths, and a propagation poly-tunnel raising tens of thousands of vegetable seedlings for sale on-site and online. By providing healthy plug plants to neighbouring allotments and via nationwide online orders, the site supports the local food system while offering volunteering and educational opportunities.
  • Boiling Wells: Boiling Wells is a 2.5-acre site nestled in a woodland valley, just a 3-minute walk from the main farm. With wild green spaces, a terraced orchard with soft fruit, native trees, and a nearby stream, it is a unique city oasis. The site hosts outdoor activities and can be hired for weddings and group events when not in use for learning and training.
  • Children and Young People: The farm offers a variety of outdoor activities for children and young people, including a youth club, free holiday activities, school and group visits, Forest School sessions, and alternative education placements.
  • Projects may accept participants through a simple application or referral process. Activities help young people connect with nature and animals, learn new skills, develop confidence, and make social connections through hands-on farm experiences and nature reserve visits at Boiling Wells.
  • Group Visits / Forest School: Groups are welcome for one-off visits or longer-term Forest School sessions. Activities are hands-on and designed to support learning about nature and developing social skills.
    • After School Activities: A range of youth activities is available after school, including a youth club. Program offerings may change throughout the year.
