Description

Welcome to Southwold Pier a Pier-fect day out. Are you looking for a great day out, all year round? At Southwold Pier, you'll find delicious food, excellent shopping, breathtaking sea views and eccentric British seaside fun reaching 623 feet into the North Sea from the Suffolk coast.

Think of Southwold, and you’ll think of Southwold Pier.  In fact, think of the British Seaside and you’re likely to think of Southwold Pier.  For those of us who like our fun on the eccentric side, our food fresh and seasonal, and big, beautiful views, Southwold Pier is a simply marvellous way to spend the day.

It’s a pretty sight from the shore: a row of white buildings reaching 623 feet out into the North Sea.  Rebuilt in the 1990s after years of neglect, the Pier stretches out on wooden boards to a T-shaped end where, once in a while, a traditional steamer vessel docks to take on passengers. And of course, when you’re all that way out to sea, the shore looks pretty incredible too.

Prices starts from £150 for Fishing in march. If you are looking for Best place for day out with kids and families then this is the perfect destination offering fun, adventure, and unforgettable memories for everyone.

Features

  • The Arcade: This is traditional British seaside family fun at its brightest and loudest! The Arcade is chock full of games to test your skill and luck. Pluck a prize from the crane game or test your timing on the twopenny shove machine – can you find the tipping point? You’ll find action-packed racers, adrenaline pumping shoot-‘em-ups, classic fruit machines … none of the gambling is for large amounts, this is all about fun.
  • Under the Pier Show: Welcome to the utterly eccentric world of Tim Hunkin’s machines. Where else in the world can you experience the life of a fly in VR, train for your future on a Zimmer frame simulator, or take out your frustrations with the financial industry on the ‘Whack A Banker’ machine (it’s really very cathartic) all in one room?
  • Wacky Walk of Mirrors: See yourself as never before. Short and fat, tall and thin, or even on the wonk … the Wacky Walk of Mirrors sets our visitors into gales of laughter. See your reflections change and distort into the craziest shapes as you walk beside the wall. You’ll soon see who’s got the weirdest gait, the funniest face, the silliest grin, the wobbliest legs, the longest head – and the loudest laugh!
  • The Water Clock: Brussels is famous for the Manneken Pis, but Southwold has raised the stakes! The Pier houses two of his peeing peers – a pair of piddlers who perform punctually* every half hour. The cheeky sculpture was made in 1998 by eccentric talents Tim Hunkin and Will Jackson, in three weeks and to an impossibly tight budget. Designed as a feature about water recycling, water is pumped up to the top of the clock from the well below and goes on to power the half hourly pee-show.
  • Fishing: There’s plenty of fish in the Southwold sea. Keen fisher or novice, you’re welcome to spend your day sea angling from the end of the Pier.  Cast your line at Southwold’s most easterly point and see what takes the bait. Regular catches include Whiting in the autumn and Codling in the winter, while Dover Sole and Bass are plucked from the water in the summer months.

Facilities

  • Parking: The council provides a large car park to the left of the Pier which is available 24 hours a day and free parking is available from 6pm.
  • Food & Drinks: It’s hard to decide what’s best about eating at the Boardwalk Restaurant: the views or the food. It’s a good job you can enjoy them both at the same time.
