The Southport Treasure Trail
0.28 miles
Southport Model Railway Village is the very first Model Railway Village in the UK, opened in May 1996 at King’s Gardens, Southport. Built on a 1:18 scale, it transforms 1.5 acres of landscaped seafront into a detailed miniature world inspired by Merseyside and South West Lancashire architecture. Loved by families and model train enthusiasts, it offers a peaceful and fascinating outdoor attraction for all ages.
The village features a beautifully designed country scene, village and town layout, with one of the largest 45mm ‘G’ gauge garden railway systems in the UK running through 500 metres of track. A waterway connects two natural ponds, home to ducks, moorhens, and seasonal wild birds including wrens, robins, finches, tits, doves and wood pigeons. Visitors can relax on bench recesses around the site, enjoy panoramic miniature views, bring a picnic to the tea gardens area, and purchase hot drinks, ice creams and snacks from the entrance kiosk.
Admission prices: Adult £8.50, Child £6.50, Under 3s Free. Senior (over 65) or Student £7.50, Carer (with ID) £5.00, and Family Ticket (2 adults + 2 children) £25.00.
Overall, Southport Model Railway Village offers a charming and tranquil day out by the seaside. With detailed miniature scenes, moving trains, and wildlife around the ponds, it creates a unique experience that delights both children and adults. It’s the perfect place to relax, explore, and enjoy the magic of model railways in a beautifully landscaped setting.
