Scarborough North Bay Railway is Britain’s Biggest Miniature Railway and has been delighting visitors for over 90 years. Located in North Yorkshire’s seaside resort of Scarborough, it offers a fun-filled family day out by the coast. The 20 inch gauge railway runs a 2-mile return journey between Peasholm Station and Scalby Mills Station, offering a 30-minute ride with views of Northstead Manor Gardens and North Bay. At the lakeside you can enjoy the Historic Water Chute, Skytrail high ropes course, Water Walkerz inflatable balls, Miniport Boats, Flamingo Boats, and the Drive Your Own Tram (£1.00 per trip), plus a £160 Driver Experience behind a historic locomotive. The Railway: Sit back and enjoy a ride on Britain's biggest miniature railway! The 20 inch gauge Scarborough North Bay Railway has been delighting generations of visitors since 1931 and is a must-visit attraction at the beautiful North Yorkshire seaside resort Scarborough. Travel between Peasholm Station, the railway's hub next to Peasholm Park, and Scalby Mills Station situated next to Scarborough Sealife. Your 30 minute experience offers a nostalgic way to travel but also doubles as a transport link.
Historic Water Chute: Make a splash on our historic Victorian Water Chute. One of only three examples left in the UK, the chute has been taking people on an exhilarating ride into Northstead Manor Gardens lake since 1931. Listed as one of the top 10 Vintage Seaside Attractions by The Guardian, a short hurtle down a ramp from our station ends as the boat-shaped carriage splashes into the lake, before gliding onwards. The chute was refurbished in 2008, after it fell into neglect and is a must for the whole family!
Skytrail: This is THE ultimate challenge for every thrill-seeker! Suitable for all over the age of 5, if you are after an adrenalin rush, rise to the challenge around our 2 level rope bridge and beam course. Towering at over 20ft tall, the Skytrail offers magnificent views over Northstead Manor Gardens and our lake - climb, balance and swing your way around the course.
Water Walkerz: Have you ever walked on water? Experience the thrill by jumping inside one of our large inflatable Water Walker balls! Spin on Northstead Manor Gardens lake but can you stay upright? See how fast you can go! Walk, run, roll, flip and spin - your friends and family will be in fits of laughter.
Miniport Boats: Ahoy sailor! Take to the helm of one of our electric boats for a leisurely ride round Northstead Manor Gardens lake. Which emergency service will you serve for? Fire, Police or Lifeboat? Go to the lighthouse and try to get the boats through the obstacles. Fantastic fun for the whole family to enjoy!
Flamingo Boats: Something for the little ones! Suitable for ages 4-10! A chance to paddle their own boat!
Drive Your Own Tram: Located next to Peasholm Station building is our 'Drive Your Own Tram', perfect for our visitors under the age of 10 years old! For just £1.00 for a trip up and down, they can become a driver along the tram's very own section of track. The tram provides a perfect photo opportunity, so be ready to wave to the camera and beep the horn.
Driver Experience: Why not treat yourself or someone special to an unforgettable time driving one of our historic locomotives for just £160! Our Driver Experience courses are a great way to spend time with your loved ones, whether you are celebrating a special occasion, big birthday, or even if it is just an excuse for a get–together. Take one round trip at the controls, with photo opportunities aplenty, and ask our experienced drivers questions as they guide you down the track.

By Car: Once in Scarborough: Follow the brown signs for North Bay Attractions. Peasholm Station is located on Burniston Road. There is a large pay and display car park opposite the station. Scalby Mills Station is further north, off Burniston Road. Follow signs for Scarborough Sealife. A large pay and display car park is at the bottom of the station ramp.
By Bus: Why not travel by vintage open-top bus, taking advantage of our partnership with Viscount Travel. Operating from Scarborough Spa and South Bay, purchase a Road & Rail ticket and enjoy beautiful views along the seafront on your ride to the railway.
By Train: Scarborough Station is operated by TransPennine Express, who operate a direct service to York Station.
