The National Trust’s Old Coastguard Station, located at the bottom of Robin Hood’s Bay in North Yorkshire, is a free visitor center and café offering insights into local history, smuggling, and geology. 

It features interactive exhibits on coastal conservation, a rock pool tank, and Tracker Packs for exploring the beach. A varied coastal area with nature, geology and industrial archaeology interest. Discover breathtaking views strung out along the coastal Cleveland Way National Trail.

Look out for birds, butterflies, small mammals and wildflowers along the verges on the way.

  • Parking: Free on roadside at Ravenscar. Pay and display at Saltburn, Staithes, Runswick Bay, Robin Hood's Bay (not National Trust).
  • Food & Drinks: Hot and cold drinks, light bites, ice-creams and cakes to eat in or take away at The Old Coastguard Station, Robin Hood's Bay and Ravenscar Visitor Centre.
  • Toilet: There is a toilet available for customers to the café at The Old Coastguard Station in Robin Hood's Bay. In Ravenscar, public toilets are situated across the road from the café and visitor centre.
  • Dogs allowed: Dogs on short leads welcome in visitor centres. Please keep dogs on a short lead around livestock and be aware of cliff edges.

  • Ravenscar easy cycle loop: Enjoy this leisurely cycling loop, offering opportunities to spot wildlife and explore features of 'the town that never was', plus the remains of a WW2 radar station.
