Features

  • Meet the Animals: Gorse Hill City Farm is home to lots of traditional farm animals. Although this is a city farm, it benefits from a fairly large plot of land. Unlike other city farms restricted by their surroundings, Gorse Hill City Farm feels positively sprawling. This allows a huge number of animals to be present for visitors to meet. There are over 100 animals on site, and most of them enjoy being fed. Visitors can get close to the animals with feed available for £1 per bag, providing guaranteed interaction. Another way to interact is through a ‘Meet the Small Animal Session,’ offering a great way to meet and learn about the smaller residents of the farm.
    • Cows: Come and see Dandelion and Buttercup.
    • Sheep: A variety of rare breed and native sheep are available on the farm.
    • Pigs: Middle White pigs are a docile breed and ideal for visitors to see. They are also a rare breed.
    • Goats: A variety of goat breeds are present, including rare breed Golden Guernseys, Pygmy Goats, and a Boer Billy Goat.
    • Donkeys: Donkeys Oatey and May can often be found grazing and playing together in the fields.
    • Ponies: Zac and Zoe are miniature Shetlands, while Criggy is a standard Shetland.
    • Rabbits: Different breeds of domestic rabbits are located in the small animal area.
    • Guinea Pigs: Guinea pigs can be found in the small animal area.
    • Ducks: White Campbell Ducks are part of the farm’s collection.
    • Chickens: The variety of chickens consists of Brahmas and Bantams.
    • Lambs: Lambs are available to see usually from February onwards.
  • Play Area: The play area features swings, slides, and climbing frames suitable for all ages. Picnic benches are also dotted around for convenience.
  • Meet the Small Animals: Regular small animal sessions allow children to get closer to guinea pigs and rabbits. These sessions teach children about the characteristics of each animal and how they are cared for to remain happy and healthy. Participants can stroke each animal used in the session, providing a well-rounded educational and sensory experience.
