Fulham Palace, for over 1,300 years Fulham Palace was the home of the Bishops of London. Now this historic house and botanic garden in west London is open to all to enjoy, year round, for free. Experience exciting interactive displays throughout the house and garden.

In the house, Connect with the past in our museum and historic rooms and discover the real story of Fulham Palace through the people who lived and worked here. In the garden, Explore the second oldest botanic garden in London and learn about its fascinating history. And explore temporary exhibitions, with new displays throughout the year and many more to explore.

Join Bishop Compton and get hands-on with his famous collection of exotic plants from around the world. Meet the Bishops in our Tudor great hall. Hear the sounds of Fulham Palace past and present in our sensory room. Walk among the Bishops as you learn about their roles as estate owners, gentlemen and family men. Learn about the role of religion in the lives of the Bishops and their families in our chapel. Explore the archaeological story of the site and examine artefacts discovered here.

See examples of the types of exotic plants Bishop Compton grew at the Palace in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. Meet our oldest resident — a 500 year old holm oak tree — and spot other rare trees on the estate. Have a family adventure in our natural play area near the main lawn.

Birthday Party Details

They have a fantastic garden for birthday parties and other celebrations when booked in advance! We are a small independent charitable trust that receives no government funding. Therefore we would be grateful if you could consider making a donation to us for any organised party or celebration for 30 people or over. We also ask that you contact us by email in advance so we know to expect your group. email reception@fulhampalace.org.

If you would like to bring an entertainer, picnic caterer or external organiser/assistant to the site as part of your party or event you will need to pay a set fee of £350 + vat (£420). This applies to parties or events of any size. The money from your event will go towards supporting the work of the Trust. Please contact us in advance by emailing- functions@fulhampalace.org to check availability and to pay. Please note that we limit the number of parties with an entertainer each day, so you must book in advance or you may be turned away from the site.

  • By Train: Fifteen minutes from London Waterloo. The Palace is a 25 minute walk down Putney High Street and across Putney Bridge. The 14, 424 and 430 buses taken from across the street from ‘Putney Station’ stop on Putney Bridge at the ‘Putney Bridge Station / Gonville Street’ stop. Take the steps down from the bridge, then follow the Thames Path through Bishop’s Park for ten minutes to the Palace entrance. For step-free access, use the street closest to the steps to reach the park.
  • By Bus: Buses 74, 220 and 430 stop on Fulham Palace Road at the ‘Bishop’s Park Road’ stop. The Palace is a five minute walk down Bishop’s Avenue. Buses 14, 22, 39, 74, 85, 93, 220, 265, 424 and 430 stop on Putney Bridge at the ‘Putney Bridge Station / Gonville Street’ or ‘St Mary’s / Putney Pier’ stops. Take the steps down from the bridge, then follow the Thames Path through Bishop’s Park for ten minutes to the Palace entrance. For step free access, use the street closest to the steps to reach the park.
  • By Bicycle: Cycle parking is available at the Palace. See Transport for London’s Cycle Journey Planner to help plan your route. Santander Cycle Hire docking stations are on Bishop’s Avenue and at Putney Bridge Station. See Transport for London’s Santander Cycles for hire costs and docking station locations.
  • By Car or Taxi: Travelling on Fulham Palace Road / A219, turn onto Bishop’s Avenue. The entrance to the Palace is at the end of Bishop’s Avenue, on the left-hand side. There is no public parking on-site. An accessible parking bay for blue badge holders only is located within our gated car park. Use the intercom at the car park gates to request access. If possible please call us on +44 (0)20 7736 3233 before your visit and provide the details of the registration number, make and model of vehicle and the date you plan to visit.
