Description

Fairbourne Steam Railway is a historic narrow-gauge railway located in Fairbourne, United Kingdom. The railway has been operating for over 100 years, running from Fairbourne village to the mouth of the Mawddach Estuary, where it connects with the ferry to Barmouth. It originally began as a two-foot gauge horse-drawn tramway before being converted to a 15-inch gauge steam railway in 1916.

The railway features several locomotives including Yeo, Russell, Sherpa, Beddgelert, Tony and Gwril. Many of these are replica narrow-gauge engines inspired by historic railway designs. The site also includes the Fairbourne Museum, located at the Fairbourne Miniature Railway Station, where visitors can explore photographs, historical documents and railway memorabilia connected with Fairbourne’s past.

Ticket prices range from £1.00 to £15.00 depending on ticket type. A Day Rover ticket costs £15.00 and allows unlimited travel on the day of purchase. Single tickets are £9.80, while accompanied children (maximum two per adult) pay £1.00 and unaccompanied children pay £8.75. Diesel on Demand fares are £8.00 for adults and £4.00 for children, and dogs are welcome with a £1 Day Rover fare.

Overall, Fairbourne Steam Railway offers a historic railway journey along the Mid-Wales coast, combining heritage locomotives, scenic travel and a small museum experience.
