Bembridge Windmill this little gem is a Grade 1 listed building and one of the island's most iconic images. Built around 1700, it last operated in 1913 but still has most of its original machinery intact. Climb to the top of the mill then find out how it once worked as you descend its four floors.

  • On foot: From Bembridge: Approximately 0.7 miles along quiet village roads. Note: Some sections lack pavements or have uneven surfaces. From Sandown: Approximately 5 miles via the Coastal Path SS43, linking up with other routes from Culver Down Beacon. This route offers stunning views but is hilly and suited for those comfortable with longer walks.
  • By train: Brading: 2 miles by footpath. Follow the B36 footpath from Brading station, then connect to B57 and BB20/21 footpaths leading directly to the windmill.
  • By bus: From Ryde Esplanade train station: Take the number 8 bus towards Newport, get off at Steyne Cross bus stop, and walk 8 minutes to the windmill. From Newport and Sandown: Take the number 8 bus towards Ryde, get off at Steyne Cross bus stop, and walk 8 minutes to the windmill.
  • Cycling: NCN67: ½ mile away. Follow the cycle route signs towards Bembridge Windmill. Note: This route is recommended for experienced riders due to fast-moving traffic and steep inclines.
  • Parking: Free (not National Trust), 100 yards in lay-by.
