Description

Athenry Dominican Priory, also known as the Priory Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, is an atmospheric medieval monument located in Athenry, County Galway. Founded in 1241 by Meyler de Bermingham, it served as a significant centre of religion and learning for centuries before falling into ruin following the Reformation and Cromwellian conflicts. Today, the site offers visitors a quiet, contemplative space to explore the skeletal remains of the church and study the architectural evolution of Irish monastic life.

Admission to this historic site is free, as it is a state-owned National Monument in the care of the Office of Public Works.
